International News Presentation: Past and Present

Last night, Portugal's TVI, celebrating their 24th anniversary, launched a new logo (in line with their cable channels) a new look for their news operation, on both TVI and TVI24, their 24-hour news channel.

New developments for SBT: last night, by the network owner's orders (!), all newscasts now carry the current temperature in major Brazilians cities and the current time (based on Brazilian Summer Time) on an analog clock (!!) - see story here: http://mauriciostycer.blogosfera.uol.com.br/2016/11/08/silvio-santos-manda-principal-telejornal-do-sbt-exibir-as-horas-na-tela/ (in Portuguese).
Plus, their branding is now standardized, based on the graphics for their main evening newscast, SBT Brasil .

Jornal do SBT (late):

SBT Notícias (overnight):

Primeiro Impacto (morning):

Also, SBT also drew some criticism over the past couple of months (especially from the local Journalists' Union) for replacing the previous co-anchors for Primeiro Impacto (both of which remain with SBT) with 18-year-old Dudu Camargo, which adopts a presenting style not unlike that of their time-period competitor, Luiz Bacci (who is much older than Camargo), from Record's Balanço Geral Manhã .

International News Presentation: Past and Present

A couple of weeks ago, SBT replaced their weeknight overnight programming (which included many American series) with repeats of their late news. And yesterday, those repeats were replaced by a new overnight newscast (most likely still pre-recorded), broadcast from the opposite side of their studio, overlooking the newsroom (and their studio shots are still in SD...).

Last Thursday, Brazil's SBT, the same day they strarted letterboxing their analog feed and moved their graphics to the 16:9 area, relaunched the local newscasts on their owned-and-operated stations (except in São Paulo, where they have no local newscasts whatsoever), bringing them in line with the national bulletins.

Morning:
SBT Rio Manhã (SBT Rio - Rio de Janeiro, preceded by the end of Primeiro Impacto ):

Midday:
SBT Rio Grande (SBT RS - Porto Alegre):

SBT Pará (SBT Pará - Belém): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDav-4khm6Y
SBT Brasília (SBT Brasília): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYdha3k3hEA
Noticidade (SBT RP - Ribeirão Preto): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS4uMDYRTDQ

Evening:

Redação SBT (short bulletins on some stations, O&O or affiliated - curiously, it shows the Al Jazeera English set):

Olympics 2016

I should've posted that a couple of weeks ago, but here is the Globo Olympic theme, with lyrics, performed by many popular Brazilian singers, as it was first aired on New Year's Eve:

The full-length instrumental theme, performed by the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra:

And the "medal theme", played whenever a Brazilian athlete or team won a medal at the Olympics:

Also, the opening sequence for Record's - very sub-par - coverage of the games (in London, they had the exclusive OTA rights to the Olympics):

International News Presentation: Past and Present

Yesterday was a busy day here in Brazil, not just politically, but also on the television newscasts themselves.

RedeTV!, which has been making a massive improvement on their news product over the past few months, relaunched their newscasts, with a late afternoon newsmagazine (which isn't as crime-focused as their competitors) and their main newscast, RedeTV! News , moving to 7:15pm BRT (from their previous timeslot of 9:50pm) and with the addition of a new co-anchor.

And SBT finally switched their national newscasts to HD (they were the last major network to do so)... well, mostly. Studio shots are in SD widescreen, with everything else in HD.

Jornal do SBT (late night and early morning - and the network's only pre-recorded newscast):

Primeiro Impacto (morning):

SBT Brasil (main evening newscast):

TJ Aparecida , TV Aparecida, Brazil, 2016 (relaunch, with the move to HD and to midday broadcasts, from early primetime):

Primeiro Impacto , SBT, Brazil, 2016 (premiere edition):

The name was licensed from Univision, otherwise, it's a completely different newscast - starting from the fact the SBT's Primeiro Impacto is a morning newscast, while Univision's Primer Impacto is a late afternoon (and considerably tabloid) newsmagazine.

Also, SBT is Brazil's only major broadcast network still broadcasting their newscasts in SD.

However, SBT did have a newscast modeled after the original Primer Impacto between 2004 and 2005, when the network barely had a news department (a full-fledged operation was only reinstated in 2005, with the launch of their flagship newscast, SBT Brasil), but I can't find any video of said bulletin, branded Jornal do SBT - Primeira Edição (with a working title of "Jornal da Notícias").
