Exactly this... I need to stop following them Hun based groups on Facebook...

Nothing wrong with having an interest in international culture, but I think we stopped calling Germans that after the world war ended.

Yes the changeover happened at 9pm because Sky News HD started at the same time as their election programme.

Coronavirus | Television News Coverage

This means we're effectively going to have the same story dominating the news cycle for several days. Sunday's news was full of it because they leaked it all to the Sunday papers, Monday's news is full of "tonight Boris will announce" and Tuesday's news will be full of "last night Boris announced". They're not daft.

Of course not. It's the way TV is now. Just like the lifestyle shows. They spend the first 5 mins telling you what is going to happen, then recaps of what has happened, and what is still to happen every 5 to 10 mins through the show. So much airtime to fill with such little content I suppose.

I can usually get through a 1 hour scheduled show in about 30 mins thanks to miracle of the PVR

Cut all the fluff out and you can get it down to 15 minutes. Or maybe 5 if you're really ruthless Wink

You joke but I used to find myself doing this with The Gadget Show. Originally, I just skipped the competition. Then I started skipping other bits. When I found myself watching it on fast forward for most of the programme, I realised it was time to cancel the series link.

Top of the Pops

The Beatles did some promotional films when they got big enough to not bother going to TV studios, for the likes of Ed Sullivan to show. Some of them couldn't be shown over here because they were miming in them and that was against union rules I think, like this Hello Goodbye video.

Also with regards to lyric videos - the first one I remember being big because of a lack of music video was Cee-Lo Green's Forget You/F*** You in 2010.

EDIT: Neil beat me to it.

Talking with my flatmate- as well as idents which are deemed as not correct for a death- we got onto TV programmes which could be rested if needed?

A flatmate you can talk about idents and scheduling with? Where do you find these people?

Luckily our very own Larry the Loafer uploaded said documentary, and here is the part about the Queen Mother:

And didn't realise it was Cheggers who knocked out Pamela Anderson.

For a moment there I thought 'I didn't know there was a fight between Cheggers and Pamela Anderson…'!

30 years ago today: the smokey globe and the 2s

To get live programmes on air in stereo there was a separate sound mixer in the Spur. I can't believe the aren't stories of entertaining cockups with that arrangement but I guess as it was still technically a test transmission it didn't matter too much.

I'm sure I recall reading an anecdote that sometimes the sound on a live programme would inadvertently continue on the NICAM feed after it had finished, so you could hear what was going on in the studio.

BBC Select to return as a brand

Pete posted:
I'm reliably informed that BBC Studios was originally going to launch with exactly the same disaster of a blocks logo and that this is, sadly, entirely on purpose bc an actual designer thinks it is good and them upstairs are too dozy to notice.

We're often accused on this forum of complaining about things that don't matter outside of a presentation forum. No regular person cares about logos, idents and so on.

Surely even they can see that a sub-brand of the BBC using a completely different, homemade BBC master logo, possibly without authorisation, is crazy? I can't imagine this ever being allowed to happen at ITV, Sky, Channel 4, etc. It just boggles the mind.

There's nothing to discuss unless his condition changes. Other than speculation, which I don't think would be appropriate.
