The ITN Nostalgia Thread

I don't think this is what you're after, but just in case it is:

Thanks for hunting that out, Brekkie.

It's so close to what I vaguely remember but not quite it. Very nice to hear again though.

The piece of music was drummy like this one but a bit shorter and even more dramatic, for want of a better word.

johnnyboy, you can listen to the 2004 package on this page. It's library music under the name 'World Agenda', scroll down to tracks #101-115 and click play, the publishers let you preview the full tracks on the page even if you don't have an account. See if it's one of those.

BBC Radio Rebrand

Five Live Sports Extra is too much of a mouthful.

They should rename the two stations "BBC Radio Five" and "BBC Radio Live"

BBC Radio Five One and BBC Radio Five Two.

GB News

I know people are asking us to be objective about this channel, but even with the limited info we already have, it's hard not to make an early judgement.

Arrow The name 'GB News'. I'm sorry but this just immediately conjures up nationalistic images for me.
Arrow The fact it's not going to be a rolling news channel but have "news-based programmes". Presumably trying to be the TV version of LBC where impartiality actually means having people of various political leanings across the schedule.
Arrow Hiring Dan Wooton.

I'll give it a go. But I'm a bit disappointed we're going to get this and not NBC Sky World News.

It's also an interesting time since if it had launched earlier, presumably Brexit and Trump would have made watching it insufferable dominated the on-air discussion somewhat.

Should BBC One become... just BBC?

Carlton may have had bags, but Thames owned a river.

YouTube Gold

Just to conclude this topic before the thread moves on, I had mistakenly assumed that the original video I posted of the Granada Reports titles was from the day of the 2004 ITV News relaunch (2nd Feb) but looking at the description it turns out it was actually from the 12th.

TV Ark have a clip of the intro from the 2nd, which does feature the standard theme music without the edited intro. So at some point in the intervening 10 days, someone decided it didn't sound bold enough and edited it.

TV Forum: New for (the middle of) 2020

Or do yourself a favour and use Edge for what it's designed for - downloading and installing Firefox/Chrome/Opera/other browser of choice Very Happy

Not sure this is really as true as it was seeing as Edge basically is Chrome now.

But if you're like me and have always disliked any flavour of Chrome and prefer Firefox then it still stands!

Edge is not Chrome. It is based on Chromium. Not quite the same thing. Google Chrome is also based on Chromium but has extra bells and whistles, ie having just enough to make it unique enough from Chromium. Edge may be similar.

They both use the Blink browser engine, which was developed by Google for Chrome. One of the big reasons why Microsoft moved to Blink is because a lot of sites are now developed with only Chrome in mind, breaking compatibility in Safari, Firefox and the old Edge.

Pretty sure the new Edge works with Chrome extensions, too.

YouTube Gold

Ahh, thanks RDJ. Didn’t realise it was from the sport sting - you can definitely tell it’s being edited, you can hear the cut to the normal theme. (I do think it sounds better TBH…)

I wonder if Granada were accidentally given an unused/early version of the music? Unless they really demanded their own variations.

The Sky News Thread

I think I can see Derek Jameson in that photo too. I don't think he was on Sky News either, he did a talk show for Sky One. So presumably it wasn't just a gathering of people associated with Sky News, but Sky in general.

YouTube Gold

This isn't really 'YouTube Gold' but something I've only just noticed after 16 years - I've had a look at the other regions on TV Ark and as far as I can tell, Granada were the only region that had this shimmering sound effect at the start of the 2004 generic titles. Everyone else just had a normal cymbal sound.

Funny how even in generic looks like this you have oddities from region to region.

For comparison, what everyone else's sounded like:

I enjoyed Dermot Murnaghan's summing up of The Channel 4 Daily at the end of the final programme.
