Armed Insurrection at US Capitol Building

For those calling for BBC One to drop their programmes and simulcast BBC News, no! By all means stick a bit of text on screen briefly advising to tune to BBC News for ongoing developments but some people won’t want to watch it. It may not interest them. BBC News can be picked up on every TV set in the land that can receive BBC One. Let the news channels do the rolling news, and leave the bulletins to BBC One etc.

I'm fine with that as long as they apply it across the board, but they don't. Why is it deemed worthy for election coverage to take over BBC One the day after the election as it usually does, or rolling coverage of a terrorist attack (which yesterday's events arguably were) to do the same when your argument could be made in both situations.

Robert Moore in congress with the mob. Not much chance of a quiet final few weeks in his role then.

Has ITV dedicated the entire bulletin so far to tonight's events? Well done, if so.

Armed Insurrection at US Capitol Building

Biden a real president - timed his (historic) speech nicely for broadcasters joining at the top of the hour. Boris Johnson condemning the obstruction to the transfer of power in the last few minutes, and now reports of a bomb being found. This is more than news channel fodder.

BBC One doesn't even have an extended 10 O'Clock News scheduled, as of the time of this post. ITV News At Ten runs to 10:35, so a grand total of 5 extra minutes.

The BBC have added their own 5 minutes now. Enough time for a few vox pops with terrorists in the interests of balance.

Not disagreeing that there shouldn’t have been a newsflash, but the fact that many of you bemoaning the lack of one are already watching the news suggests you may not need one...!

I look forward to the episode of Tipping Point that will air as scheduled on the day The Queen dies then.

CNN's coverage has been simply outstanding.

BBC have clearly decided 'The Truth About Boosting Your Immune System' is so important that it cannot be dropped to provide coverage of this on BBC One. Certainly not the decision I would have made.

It is only a "scuffle" after all.

Seriously, if something like this happened in the UK in response to the results of an general election, or a referendum, the entire schedule would be cleared and rightfully so. That it's happening in another country doesn't really matter that much when you take into account it is the country that is often said to be one we have a "special relationship" with, as well as the "world's most powerful country" and one regarded as being a shining example of democracy.

The BBC have just cut to the weather. I'm expecting either for Christian to join Katty for a special edition of the unnamed hour..or they are getting someone in place for a BBC One Newsflash

No newsflash on BBC One at the 9pm junction.

Armed Insurrection at US Capitol Building

Interestingly RT covering the Assange extradition whilst this is live on other channels.

Presume it's live on the US networks - and to be honest I think it warrants breaking coverage on BBC1/ ITV - truly astonishing scenes.

I was thinking the same thing. This is historic, in the most horrible way.

UK Govt launch another attack on BBC, C4 & S4C

Quote:
He wrote: "Someone switching on their TV from their semi in Bradford should feel just as represented by the Beeb as a person watching in their Islington townhouse."

The irony of this comment is that it's aimed at the type of voter that claims to abhor "identity politics"

US ELECTIONS 2020 Coverage

I think it’s just a bit of fun(also trump posted the video himself) the election was there top story and they covered it pretty well IMO and after all they do have a 7 hour news show tonight.

The mods may judge this to be too political of a comment but I personally find it a bit off to making out a president who has, among other things, talked up violence in the streets as the result of a court decision regarding ballots, as a bit of a fun character on the eve of his potential re-election.

I didn't think much of their main coverage of the election either, for different reasons. Too lightweight even for a UK audience IMO.
