"Five naming areas were explored: Intelligence, Icons, Americana, Premium and Destination and a shortlist of 20 names selected and validated for linguistics and trademark availability. Sky Atlantic was chosen as the channel name because of its understated iconic stature and the perfect link it provided between the channel’s US and UK influences."
New look Sky Living
I quite like the Atlantic name, with the British and American programming. It sort of unifies the two parts of the channels identity and expands on its original concept of being HBO UK - and from that link that was posted above, its clear the plan was always to eventually introduce British programming as well. I copied the important naming part below, for those who don't want to read the link."Five naming areas were explored: Intelligence, Icons, Americana, Premium and Destination and a shortlist of 20 names selected and validated for linguistics and trademark availability. What next for BBC Sport?
On Breakfast this morning, Kelly Smith was basically appealing for more television coverage of women's football. There's a huge opportunity there for the BBC to support a fledgling sport that would get quite a lot of interest and would create more role models for women and girls, isn't getting a lot of commercial interest and therefore would be cheaper to cover than the men's game and other sports. Not that BBC bosses would have been watching, though.

It's just an image I found when looking for the images of the stage cast. AFAIK the cast for the new series has not been confirmed
I googled it and it seems he was there to advertise it in Get Surrey. The stage version went to Oxford Playhouse recently.
Yes, Prime Minister return
That guy on the right is my local MP... He can't be in it, surely? Is there an article with the picture?

Because the rest of the BBC is populist and targets a mainstream audience who want to see news from the Olympics as it is the biggest public event this country has ever hosted and aren't interested in Nick Clegg having a tantrum.
The News Channel should follow Radio 4's lead though. If you want the Olympics news, watch the news on BBC One. If you want the rest of the day's news, watch the News Channel.
Olympic Fails
Fact is Radio 4 are managing to keep the Olympics in appropriate proportion, why are they the only BBC domestic broadcast outlet to do so ?

I didn't see the VT myself, just the resulting complaints - apparently during one of the first cycling events, David Bond did a piece to camera during the national anthem in the victory ceremony.
Compare with, for example, Usain Bolt.
Three times they used that technique last night on the News at Six. Twice in two Olympics reports and then again in BBC London. Which obviously was mostly about the Olympics. I understand it in a warzone, when you're showing what is going on at the time, but I don't think it's necessary to prove that you actually were at the Olympic event when you made the report.
Olympic Fails
What is this hideously annoying technique of reporters covering events where they stare into a lens doing a piece to camera while the action is happening over their shoulder (or all around them)?

Sky are really loving these "dedicated channels" at the moment. Must be a phase marketing is going through.

Sky Living does need some strengthening, I'll admit that. But it has a core audience, women. Sky1 still seems rather lost as a channel. I can't quite tell if it's trying to be a digital equivalent of the core terrestrial channels or a miss-match of stuff Sky Atlantic and Sky Living don't want.

It's apparently to strengthen Sky Living. Sky1 still has a lot of new and returning shows coming up. Trollied for one.

Sky Atlantic are also now using this style of ident occasionally to advertise Sky Go, with the Atlantic blue background.
Elsewhere, the purpose-of-Sky1 problems get worse as series 2 of Mount Pleasant and a new show, Gates, have both been moved to Sky Living. A further siphoning of good programming to the new Sky channels.

The British Olympic Association represents all of the UK, the Crown Deps and Overseas Territories. I think, although this is a contentious issue, that many Northern Irish people have dual citizenship, so could represent either nation. At these games, Northern Irish rowers won a silver and a bronze for Team GB in the men's fours and single sculls.
And a small addition to my last post, about Team GB: In 2004, the OCI objected when the British Olympic Association changed its style from "Great Britain" to "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" in the runup to the Athens games. So until then, we had been Great Britain anyway.
Team GB
The 'Team GB' is used because its catchy more than anything. But I thought Northern Irish athletes compete for a Team GB, and aren't the republic or Ireland a completely separate country to and has no relationship with NI, Scorland, England & Wales? Or do I need to brush up on my geography skills?
