Any box with Anytime+ will have the Catch Up service, according to the website. So that includes the new black Sky+ boxes too.
Sorry for any confusion.

Sky News: Presenters & Rotas

Sam Kiley has been appointed Middle East Correspondent

So he's effectively gone in full circle from being the Times' MENA chief to Security Editor and back to the Middle East again.

Poor move, in my opinion. He was very good analysing situations from London and had great MOD sources.

Sky News: Presentation Discussion

American reporters have a tendency to throw back by simply mentioning the anchor's name. Usually followed by said anchor speaking pretty much immediately. I presume American news presentation is driven primarily by the anchor is why most shows are named in that fashion (such as CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley), and you get the odd strange statement (<tv show> with <somebody> immediately followed by "Hello, <somebody>'s off tonight, I'm <somebody else>").

Almost as bad as Jeff Randall Live, with Joel Hills/Anna Jones. And to a lesser extent, Boulton and Co, with no Boulton.

Anytime+ has disappeared from the EPG for the beta versions. It's now called 'On Demand'.

As well as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player & Demand5, they intend to offer a full 7-day catch-up service for Sky channels.

Full details haven't been released yet, or tested, but I'm looking forward to that.

Bar a few minor glitches, the latest software has been remarkably stable and the Development Team take people's concerns very seriously. I'm hoping they will release the next phase soon. Wink

That sounds fantastic! Sky have been lagging behind the iPlayer, and from what I've heard about TiVo, Virgin Media as well so it will be nice to get some new features on the HD box.
I assume these changes will only be for the HD boxes, right? Anytime+ and the recent software update have only happened on my HD box.

I don't think Sky2 is necessarily a catch-up channel for Sky1: some of the popular programmes aren't repeated on there. I actually see more programmes of interest on PickTV.

Sky's full catch-up service should begin beta testing soon. As long as there are going to be HD downloads available, then I can't see the point of more +1s for anyone with access to 'Anytime+/On Demand'.

Sky2 isn't a catch-up channel for Sky1, but it should be, is what I'm saying. I don't think it really serves much of a purpose at the moment anyway.
And what's the full catch-up service going to be like? An evolution of Anytime?

But they are what they say on the tin. What would you prefer? "Sky1 An hour later"?

I can understand Sky having +1 channels given their catch up services aren't as widely available as the likes of the BBC. I still think Atlantic doesn't hold it's value as much as it did at launch, so I still don't see why they won't let it on Virgin. I know it's something exclusive to hang on to, but it's slowly becoming what Sky2 should be.

Sky2 is in essence a catch up channel for Sky1. So I'm not sure there's a need for Sky1 to have a timeshift channel, or if it does it should be Sky2, offering timeshift and timeshuffled programming along the lines of 4seven, perhaps.

Sky Living has Sky Livingit, so Sky1 should have Sky2. Maybe the only channel to justify a timeshift is Sky Atlantic.

So? ITV1+1 already exists. How is Sky1+1 any different?

They're both bad names in my opinion.

Sky1+1 is a horrid name but what can you do. It'll be good to have a bit more flexibility when recording Atlantic shows, though. It's often problematic when I want to record two or three programmes on Sky and the BBC, as neither have timeshift channels.

The Rise and Rise of Huw Edwards

What an excellent birthday present for Huw. He's got rather big shoes to fill.
