The future of Fox Networks Group

As part of advertising new 6, 4 or 3 month sponsorship packages, FOX UK has said:

With new content like War of The Worlds and returning favourites such as NCIS Season 17 (which is up 10% on last year), Fox has secured 5th position across pay TV Channels in FY20 but is expected to climb this year.

BBC Three to return as a linear channel?

Jake Kanter says returning BBC3 to linear broadcast has been given serious consideration:

It would be great if BBC Three came back as a proper TV channel and replaced BBC Four, with the new content on BBC Four transferred to BBC Two.

New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

Although a controversial thought in mind, what about simply merging W and Gold? W, although previously named as the more logical, yet hard-to-Google name "Watch", essentially has become what more or less is considered just a Doctor Who re-run channel, with the occasional push for women's programming. When originally, the purpose of Watch was essentially recent archival programming mixed in with original produced programmes.

Why not simply try to relaunch the format of UK Gold and continually broadcast new commisions as time goes on so that the channel doesn't end up becoming a stale re-run channel like how W has been with Doctor Who? With the newly remerged channel, I feel like it could work, what with the new BritBox coming along I think with the new channel they could co-exist, maybe rebroadcast BritBox commisions once they have had their run.

I'm guessing you've not actually looked at the listings for W.

The schedule mainly consists of:

Emily Atack: Adulting
Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over
Emma Willis: Delivering Babies
Finding Joy
The Wedding Fixer
Sun, Sea and Brides to Be
My Dream Home
Renovate My Home
Property Brothers
Code Black
999 Rescue Squad
Inside the Ambulance
Great Ormond Street
Never Seen A Doctor
Tipping Point

It's completely incompatible with the sort of content on Gold.

Anyway, as this thread is supposed to be about Sky's new channels, not UKTV, this conversation should really be elsewhere.

New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

JAS84 posted:
Wouldn't Blaze be a more logical casualty? It's a sister channel of History, which is already becoming Sky branded.

A+E Networks UK is a joint venture between Hearst and Sky, so Sky don't have complete control over the channels. They can't force BLAZE to be closed just because they want an extra Freeview slot!

SYFY UK and E! UK accounts on Facebook now renamed Sky TV too.

The consolidation of all their TV networks' social media accounts continues.

The future of Fox Networks Group

FBC posted:
I’d imagine so. Before its rebrand to FOX a few years ago it was already perfectly happy to source programming from anyone and everyone as long as it fit the channel’s profile.

FX UK used to air a lot of FX US shows, it has always supplemented them with bits from elsewhere but they were what gave the channel its edge.

Wouldn't it just keep it's current programming?

It's not really got enough programming to sustain it, with a drastically reduced set of programmes at the moment. Also, I imagine Disney might want to drop the current content associated with Fox US.

I think an issue with rebranding Fox UK to FX UK might be the lack of any shows for them to air on the UK version given their extensive content partnership with the BBC.

TVVT posted:
I could see Fox getting rebranded in the future, especially as the only Fox US shows also airing on Fox UK & Ireland are Bones, The first few series of American Dad, War Of The Worlds and Family Guy. The rest of it comes mostly from CBS and AMC.

The new War of the Worlds series isn't a Fox US show, it's actually a Fox Networks Group co-production with Studio Canal, but yes there's very little programming associated with Fox US and Fox UK.

What do we know about Disney's plan for the Fox Networks Group so far?

Are they still planning to keep all of these international channels going, and what is the likelihood of them getting a rebrand?

Freeview channels thread

Not sure if this is temporary or permanent, but MTV Classic as rebranded as MTV 80s.

I wonder if they’re jumping on the Now bandwagon, and are testing the water for potential rebrands of other channels.

They’ll still probably show reality programming from the 00’s on a channel called MTV 80’s

MTV Classic, currently MTV 80s, doesn't show reality programming, from the 00s or any decade, it is 100% music videos and actually a really good TV channel.

Not sure why 'kernow' has posted this in the Freeview channels thread!

New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

TVVT posted:
The most logical EPG positions for Sky Nature would be 163 or 168, so that it's within the vicinity of Animal Planet (162), Nat Geo Wild (165) and Eden (166).

I'm a bit surprised that they are putting Sky Documentaries on 114, but I guess they wanted it close to BBC Four (116). Hopefully they won't move SYFY too far, as it's one of the best known Pay TV brands, and if they do slap Sky onto the name then it needs a relatively good slot.

I’m not too sure Sky would want one of their new channels to launch in the 160’s even if near it’s rivals, it’s the logic that moved Real Lives from 170 to 121 when it became Sky Crime. SYFY could go to 145 bumping down or closing Sky Sports Mix. If (Sky) History gets moved up in the guide when it relaunches in April, it could take 130, or to 163 moving up (Sky) History2, or close.

It's about appeal and potential audience.

SYFY has a broader appeal and greater potential audience than Sky Nature.
