Good Morning Britain

It'll just be a feel good Christmas Day show - and this year I think keeping news on Christmas Day to the absolute minimum is a must. There is just no need for it - there is nothing that can happen on the day that we can't wait another day to hear.

Completely agree - I'm fairly sure that there's been an ITV News bulletin on Christmas morning in the past few years (may have been at 9.25 am), so they can cut away to the presenter in the studio if a very major story did happen to break.

UK General Election Colour Hexes?

Does anybody know what Colour hexes the BBC and Sky tend to use (or have used over the years) for the parties when presenting their exit polls in UK General Elections?

I’m not too sure, however I wouldn’t rule out them simply picking the colour from the party logo.

In terms of differences in colour between BBC and Sky, there aren’t any particularly noticeable ones, apart from the colour used for Independents (BBC uses a pinkish, Sky uses grey).

The splitscreen blur effect has returned...

*

Yes - I noticed that yesterday. Probably to make the two trees merge into one more seamlessly.

Good Morning Britain

Is it just me or have they really increased the prominence of the ITV News branding in the back of shot in recent months?

I haven't really noticed a change - doubt it would be deliberate. They likely made the screens behind Susanna have the 'mini-gallery' effect in September to make the background match up with that of Piers.

Looked like the whole bulletin was done on a green screen.

Lester often presents from home now, since the Pandemic start.

The Sky News Thread

It’s added very little in my opinion and considering she’ll need to be off for two weeks when she does arrive back in the UK; I’m not sure it’s worth her missing two weeks of shows.

Maybe the home setup with the desk has been installed chez Kay? Then she wouldn’t have to be off for a fortnight on her return.

Won't she get a professional exemption from the 14 day quarantine? Sports people are going back and forth between the UK and other countries. I'm sure Kay's still been doing her Telegraph travel column.

Not sure - Nigel Farage (who is there as a 'journalist' for the Telegraph) said on GMB this morning that he would have to quarantine.

And before we start the arguments about whether Nigel Farage is or isn't a journalist, he's there on journalistic dispensation by the Telegraph, meaning he would abide by the same rules as the other journalists going to the US.

New BBC social media guidelines

I saw something earlier that pride events were allowed but expressing support for some ‘trans issues’ such as the existance of more than 2 genders was not, as unlike being gay or lesbian that is still a debated and controversial subject.

Can’t remember who tweeted it, may have been Butterworth.

Hopefully this "New Graphic" does not rule out the expected and long overdue wider refresh.

Eh? Not sure what a temporary programme graphic has got to do with a potential wider package refresh...

It certainly looks temporary/not to be used regularly

Didn't want to quote the whole post about the 'new' glass box lighting due to all the pictures, but I think it's been there for a while. I've certainly seen it before - most likely just that they've turned off the main lighting in that corridor so the blue lighting is more prominent. Having said that, the change is much more noticeable now than it has been before.

Spotlight presenter Justin Leigh to leave the BBC

Wow just watched her closing of tonight’s programme. I haven’t seen a close like that since Annabel Tiffin closing on NWT on the day they announced Dianne’s death. Such a shame the powers that be thought it was a good idea to rip regional news families apart.

Good grief. Talk about self-indulgence at a time when many of their viewers are finding themselves out of work with probably nothing like the pay-off.

You can't stop natural emotions though (and the tears looked very natural) - you make a good point, but no matter your situation you're likely to find it sad when a colleague is essentially forced to leave.

GMB using split screen for presenters

Last Thursday and Friday (as seen in the video) there was no newsreader, so the split screen camera trick was still used but with the presenters positioned both in front of St. Paul's in the backdrop (it looked very similar to before social distancing). Today they're back to the normal position.

I thought it looked better on Thursday and Friday - could they not have the newsreader sat at the news desk used from 6-6.30? Whilst probably not much difference to the average viewer, I thought it looked more natural (although they are doing a brilliant job with the split screen).

Ittr, Flux and Toasty603 gave kudos
