Vicar of Dibley lockdown specials

Jon posted:
I did think this weeks mini episodes felt more like a proper episode with them shooting in the village.

On the contrary to what’s been suggested, I think the could very well do new episodes. Hugo could take on the Alice roll quite easily, his father could be quite senile now and take some of the slack from the other older characters (although that might seem like they’re making fun of dementia) and they could bring in some new characters. Some people would probably hate it but I’m sure others would watch in the same way Still Open All Hours worked.

It could possibly work, I suppose, but I don't think it would and wouldn't enjoy it as much as the old ones. It wouldn't be the same as before (which I believe most viewers would see as a bad thing) and would be a fairly big gamble to re-vamp it. It's a shame there aren't any old episodes that were never aired.

Has Gary Waldhorn appeared in any specials?

I was wondering that too, he's still alive but at his age he might be shielding or just not wanting to do it.

BBC Election 2019 with Talkback

On the exit poll thing, I believe I saw somewhere that everyone (but presumably minus the presenter) who receives the exit poll, e.g. the gallery, has their phones and devices taken off them so it can't be leaked anywhere. I may be imagining it but I seem to remember reading it somewhere.

Christmas Presents 2020

I've got a mix that I made of the Casualty theme by putting two tracks together a while ago. It's not that good, but some may be interested in having it.

The file contains two versions that I made - one with a variation of the pre-credit theme that used to be commonly used (I don't believe it is anymore) and the second one, which just has the high percussion into the main credit theme.

Kay Burley off air for 6 months

Doesn’t seem much of a punishment to be taken off air for a ‘period of time’. Depends if it’s paid or unpaid.... though it wouldn’t be appropriate to know that.

I would assume the breakfast show will go back to being known as ‘Sunrise’ rather than the name of someone who has been suspended from the company. I can’t see it being called ‘Kay Burley’ again.... that’s probably a crushing blow enough for her.

Indeed, it may not be accurate to describe this as a 'suspension'. The wording regarding all of them has been they will be 'off air' during that time – there's a good chance they will continue to be paid, and perhaps have other duties that aren't public-facing to attend to.

It might seem pedantic, but a suspension would be a clear statement of wrongdoing by the staff member that was in some way in conflict with their contractual obligations. This seems more akin to saying both sides agree these journalists cannot appear impartial and credible in reporting on COVID-19 and the law around its restrictions given recent events. Notably, six months from now there is a hope the nature of COVID restrictions will have changed considerably (for the better).

I'm fine with the use of suspension here. Her job is to be on air, she's been taken off air. That's very similar to a suspension. However, I do get your point - using the word 'suspension' could potentially be misleading. I also doubt it's a scenario of 'if Burley said no then Sky would keep her on' - I reckon if she declined to be off air they wouldn't have it. However, no-one here (as I'm aware of) is that close to the situation, so it's difficult to comment on.

She then deleted the Africa one, which put her lack of contrition about the whole affair into the public domain.

On this, I'm unsure as to why Burley deleted the Africa tweet, however I do believe that her leave next week was planned before this incident.

The main problem Sky has is that her job is to criticize the Government and politicians on their decisions relating to lockdown - having broken the rules makes her less credible, and begs the question: "why should the Government counteract her critiquing when she's broken the rules herself?". Having criticized those who broke lockdown restrictions (e.g. Cummings) this isn't a good look at all. She's front-and-center in Sky's news operations.

Without wanting to get involved in the specifics of this case, one for her HR department and the bosses, is her job to criticize? Surely her job is to question and try to find out the interviewees opinions, reasons for doing what they do, and answers to the opponents views. It isn't to start off with a negative view of what someone is saying.

The dictionary defines criticize as "Indicate the faults of (someone or something) in a disapproving way."

https://www.lexico.com/definition/criticize

That to me isn't what she should be doing, and what she does on screen is independent of her views and actions. As such, there is less of a knock-on effect of what she has done, but as I say, one for others to determine.

By criticize I really meant objective questioning (e.g. her picking out flaws in Govt's argument)

I think that whilst the actual rule-breaking aspect would frustrate bosses, if she were a correspondent (or someone not involved in interviewing/holding to account the Govt and politicians) then it could probably be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about come January. The main problem Sky has is that her job is to criticize the Government and politicians on their decisions relating to lockdown - having broken the rules makes her less credible, and begs the question: "why should the Government counteract her critiquing when she's broken the rules herself?". Good Morning Britain

It'll just be a feel good Christmas Day show - and this year I think keeping news on Christmas Day to the absolute minimum is a must. There is just no need for it - there is nothing that can happen on the day that we can't wait another day to hear.

Completely agree - I'm fairly sure that there's been an ITV News bulletin on Christmas morning in the past few years (may have been at 9.25 am), so they can cut away to the presenter in the studio if a very major story did happen to break.

I’m sure it could be arranged with ITN to insert headlines in to the Christmas programme. They could even have a recorded loop of the corner screens as a background to keep the branding, they could do explain to the viewers that they’re not there so ITV News are providing the headlines or for one day they may not have any at all.

It would be nice if the ticker could be generated to show Christmas messages for people during the show.

Do we know who will host on Christmas Day? Will Piers & Susannah record it but then have the week off leading up the day?

The ITN thing - NBC TODAY does that, and it could probably easily be arranged.

Piers and Susanna hosting, they’ve already recorded it I believe, as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves - Kay has been, evidently, taken off air for this week. She'll be off air next week and the week after too, but that, as she Tweeted last night, was planned holiday leave anyway. I'd say it'll be a while until Sky concludes its internal investigation, and then a decision will probably be made as to whether she'll stay or go.

Vicar of Dibley lockdown specials

In terms of the set, I remember seeing an article (written before the various actors passed away) where French said that the set (or parts of it) was stowed away in storage incase they did another episode/series/special. It does look slightly different though, so could be new. Don’t think it’s a greenscreen, even with the sofa being real.

I wonder if we’ll see a name change since she’s not going to be on until the new year now.

*If* the reports about her being off until the NY are true, then I doubt there'll be an official name change unless she's booted off completely. They may well revert to just calling it 'Breakfast' or 'the Breakfast show' though so that sort-of counts as a name change.
