The Sky News Thread

Someone mentioned glass effects earlier - here's one. There's a glossy line-type-thing next to the video of the guest, almost SSN stlye.

Good Morning Britain in 2020

6-6.30 with Charlotte is definitely returning tomorrow. Think it was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Alexander Bean is the name of the new voiceover.

Looks like he’s done video games before.

He’s clearly got a strong voice, and whether it’s right for GMB is a matter of opinion. But clearly needs some training.

Hopefully he’ll be directed to get his tone and emphasis right for GMB.

He's also clearly a very good voiceover for some things (as you have said), but I don't think he's right for GMB.

Unpopular opinion incoming

From what I've seen, I don't mind the new ticker. Yes, there wasn't any need for it, and it does need some fine tuning, but I reckon it's something we'll all get used to.

As for the voiceover, I'm not the biggest fan of it right now. However, I think part of that might be because it's a drastic change from the V/O that came before it. I'm certainly not going to write it off straight away though.

I find this hard to disagree with - similar to my thoughts.

Good Morning Britain in 2020

I’m honestly struggling to think of a change presentation wise that has been a genuine improvement on what the show launched with in 2014. The original studio, titles, music and graphic package were all uniformly excellent, and flowed perfectly.

The 2017 refresh, on reflection, essentially butchered the original presentation in my opinion. Every element of the graphics package was based off the ‘teardrop’ logo shape; squaring off the entire package essentially removed what made GMB’s presentation unique. In terms of the music, I think it’s a testament to the quality of the original theme that they’ve kept returning to it after commissioning new, ultimately poorer versions.

The current presentation feels like a cheap, awkward and inferior version of what they started with. Although elements of the presentation would of course have needed updating - most obviously the move to TVC left the show needing new titles, and the original logo looks a little dated 6 years on, I think they would have been far better off mostly leaving the presentation alone. This latest update further reinforces that point I feel.

Broadly I might agree, but I think that the show was in need of the 2017 refresh - it didn’t really look ‘serious’ enough (but that’s just in my opinion). I think the more square design made it better.

What exactly do you mean by this?

I think they mean that they believe ITV chose the new voiceover artist based mainly on a diversity drive, not the quality of his voiceover.

Maybe the producers are using him because they like his voice - the quality is subjective. There’s no evidence that he was employed as part of a diversity drive – just an assumption based on the fact he doesn’t sound white.

I'm not one to decide why ITV hired him - and I wasn't endorsing or condemning the previous comment, and I don't intend to weigh in on the political argument. I was merely taking a guess at what he may have meant when he referenced 'political correctness'.

I don’t mind the ticker, but I’m not won on the voiceover, it does sound like it’s been slowed down.

Voiceover - political correctness gone too far

Bauer rebranding 53 stations to The Hits/Greatest Hits

I only just saw this so I thought I’d put in my input.

My local radio station, Eagle Radio in Surrey, broadcast some of its last shows today.

Loads of people unhappy - more than I expected if I’m honest. A lot switching to Heart, etc. I am merely gauging this off social media such as Facebook, but there’s a fair amount of noise being made.

In my opinion, an awful decision. It’s such a shame that local radio is being lost.

New Discovery & Murdoch News Channels?

How do you measure bias? There's a few opinion polls every week and they all show the Conservatives in the lead. I've never seen Sky News report these or put the scores on the ticker. Yesterday, The Guardian had a poll that shows Conservative and Labour both on 40%. It's reported on Sky News and on the ticker.

If another poll is published showing the Conservatives in the lead it won't be reported or on the ticker.

I would say that poll was put on the ticker as it’s the first time the Conservatives haven’t been the single party to lead a poll in about a year, so it was fairly big news.

The Sky News Thread

On the topic of the new Millbank set, I wonder if they'll base Sophy Ridge on Sunday there. Could make sense due to the new, flashy set.

Scandals, Blunders & Lawsuits at FOXNEWS, OANN, NewsMax

And to suggest that CNN and MSNBC aren't as biased as Fox News is, having watched all three extensively over the last few weeks, is laughable.

Your argument is nonsense.

Why do you think #45 won’t appear on either channel?

Both channels report NEWS, not pedal crap! FOX news as defined by many many studies is #45’s soapbox. If you view CNN and MSNBC as bias you are seriously misinformed.

MSNBC in particular is biased towards the Democratic Party. If you can't see beyond your own political bias, then what's the point?

Let’s not get into politics here.

Obviously personal bias will change your perspective on things, but the general consensus is that channels such as CNN and MSNBC cater to a more ‘liberal’ (in US terms)/Democrat audience, whilst Fox News caters to a more ‘conservative’/Republican audience. Of course, there are presenters on both (e.g. Chris Wallace) who do seem to be a little more balanced.

Also depends on the show - ‘MSNBC Live’ (essentially a rolling news show) is seen as more balanced than ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’.

If you look closely at the picture of the studio the autocue pedal isn’t where the weird couch seat thing is does that mean that there may be another chair for the anchor to sit in?
*

Edit: on a closer look the keyboard and mouse isn’t in the position for the couch thing either.

Yes - the picture on page 8 shows that there's a desk chair for the presenter to sit in.
