London Live

If you want to see and hear some very interesting/revealing peacocking and behind the scenes footage at London Live you should check out Sinitta's Periscope feed. If you want to know how much/how little some staff are paid, how they cut corners and what they spend on equipment, how they make money from subletting the studio etc then it's all there. Not massively professional and very indiscreet.

They also appear to have given Sinitta a lot of information about setting up her own TV studio and, from what it sounds like, doing a sitcom. Nice work LL, you're now the inspiration for a joke.

"What is Periscope?" one of them asked. Really?

London Live

I notice they aren't going to town on the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards this year. I have seen Evgeny on lots of other outlets, including quite a few BBC products, talking about it but, unless I missed it, he's ignored/failed to fit in London Live. Nice vote of confidence there from the parent company.

I see they are also repeating (repeatedly) the 'Woody Allen Free' Woody Allen Movie Snore this week too. A nice new 30 minute plug for that book again what with Christmas just around the corner and it being 6,401 on Amazon's Best Selling Books list. Make sure you get your copy now because it is selling like cold cakes!

And according to the schedules London Live News Afternoon appears to be on in the afternoon, evening and morning. Grice attention to detail as always there.

Noticed the copyright acknowledgement now goes to "London Live Productions" rather than ESTV at the end of Kicks Off.

Maybe Clutching At Straws Productions was already taken. Very Happy

London Live

No lunchtime news today, replaced by Place Invaders and a repeat of Jimmy Bullard Kicks Off.

That is poor on a day when a London take on events in Paris would have been very newsworthy, especially with Gatwick being evacuated this morning.

It was also the Lord Mayor's Show today as well.

Beyond amateur. I'd be so massively and completely ashamed if that was something I was responsible for. No wonder they are the pretty much the laughing stock of the company let alone the industry. An absolute shambles.

Ah, London Live. On a day where there is a major security alert at one of the city's major airports and the day after a major terror incident in a city that will have most likely affected a large number of Londoners. Keep up the sporadic and, more often than not, decidedly average and professionally questionable work! Clearly the people at the helm remain consistently not up to the job.

The Saturday Show

I've tuned in for a bit for the first two show. I'm enjoying it. The presenters all work well together in the most part, it has a sense of fun about it and it stays away from being too twee. Nice work so far.

Jason Cundy got his own titles and credits on Kicks Off.

There were some tweaks to the show, namely that Kiri and Jason swapped some of the roles, Kiri now does the celebrity interview and is based in the soft area, while Cundy does the panel chat feature.

There was no 60 second feature either, where normally Bullard would answer viewer questions.

I assume the 60 second feature was because they didn't get enough from the audience, not that it was a great feature in the first place to be honest.

It still lacks any real power as a show. It just feels token considering the general lack of sport during the rest of the news on the channel. It feels lie it is all starting to unravel a bit and is very transient. Which is much like a large amount of their programming.

TVGBs posted:
Already some changes to the 7pm sports show. Jason Cundy replaces Jimmy Bullard on Monday's with Bullard only presenting Fridays from next week. Kiri Bloore stays on both editions.

That didn't take long for changes to come in did it? Less than a month in? I wonder what happened there. Probably not long until it either gets an overhaul or dropped or they get replaced by cheaper presenters anyway knowing London Live.

A shame as I like Jimmy Bullard. Could be down to commitments elsewhere?

I noticed on Twitter that they're using more of the hashtag #KicksOff rather than using Jimmy. They did say the show on Monday would be called Jason Cundy Kicks Off rather than using Bullard's name, so probably some re jigged titles too.

It won't take long for it to become purely Kicks Off.

Is there really a target audience? LL has pandered to hipsters, young urbanites, gangster and classic film fans and sports fans. As this was a 'news' bulletin, they still can't decide if they're doing hard news or keeping non existent viewers in Shoreditch happy.

That is a fair point. Perhaps for target audience I should have used 'anyone'. The channel is grossly schizophrenic and the person/people at the helm of news is/are clearly out of their depth and is just putting whatever to air. If someone asked me to accurately describe it I probably couldn't as it is so many things but really much anything.

London Live

During the Million Mask March, London Live had two reporters out between 6-8pm. Only one was covering the protest, the other was sent to a bonfire in Wimbledon Park.

LBC on the other hand had two reporters covering the protest live.

For me there are two things in London tonight that people, the London Live target audience, would want to see and that is the Million Mask March and the Hunger Games premiere - the final part of a huge franchise with one of the world's biggest female stars but I guess they were denied access? apart from the odd exception these days it seems like they only do red carpet stuff for small movies or turkeys which, thinking about it, sums them up. A bonfire would/should have fallen off the agenda or, at best, have been colour picture sent back and cut up for a 60 second piece for the end of the show - any tech op could have sent that back down the line and then that's three things covered. Or two at the march and the tech op sending footage back.

London Live

Losses now down to £6m and they want to break even by 2017. They also want channel 7 when BBC3 closes.

For 'losses' it might be more accurate to read 'expenses'. It's easy to cut losses when you spend less on staff, don't replace them or replace them with less well paid people or freelancers - cut the spend on the expensive part of the output and suddenly your losses diminish. I imagine it also helps if you get programming for next to nothing or free. It's a bit of a false economy and paints an inaccurate picture. It's like doing a magic trick but asking the audience to close their eyes. Ta-da!
