ITV wants to axe some regional news services

Tyne Tees cuts announced. Both Jonathan Morrell and Philippa Tomson are to leave.

Interestingly they are both the 'North' anchors. Tyne Tees will now use both the 'South' anchors Ian Payne and Pam Royle for the whole region. Not a mix of one North and one South. Although I'd image both the North anchors would be on a bigger wage than their southern counterparts.

Also leaving is much loved weather presenter Bob Johnson. He retires this month and leaves Jon Mitchell as the only trained meteorologist in the ITV regions, along with Martyn Davies on the nationals.

Plus I believe they've cut back their sports department to just one reporter across the whole north east.

Yeah, the BBC Two one really annoys me too. I didn't mind Magic Forest being a little long because it's a good ident but 14 seconds of Zoetrope makes me want to stab my eyes out.

Charlie Brooker's Newswipe

Also, can someone at Endemol get Sky+ in at headquarters, to try and improve the picture quality of the clips? Dubbing footage off VHS does not look very professional.
In the US The Daily Show/Colbert Report uses around 4 TIVO's to record off air footage from the news channels, for re-broadcast the next evening. A similar production value on Screenwipe wouldn't go a miss.

I think there's a bit of a difference between recording a few news channels for 24 hours and recording every channel and show that they may want to cover for a whole 12 months.

Anyway, I thought it was something of a stylistic choice on the part of the programme rather than just getting poor quality clips.

Oh how I wish there was a little right-wing bias in British broadcasting to even out the coverage.

Quite a poor effort compared to the other radio sites. Wrongly sized text and similar problems everywhere and it looks quite messy.

I think they should have just done NAT 5 nights a week and had the 10pm programme on Fridays either after NAT at 10.35pm or moved to another night (probabaly Saturdays).

I agree. Friday's viewing figures were, BBC1 10p.m. News 5.1 million and ITV Late News 1.3 million.

Do you know what Al Murray got in the 10pm slot?

2.5 million. Down from 3 million last week.
