Challenge and Pick to show Euro 2020 matches on Thursday

That was a very controversial one, on the Tuesday ITV1 had shown a completely meaningless Man U match, and then on the Wednesday Arsenal and Newcastle had crucial matches and they were dumped on ITV2 and Granada Plus respectively. ITV pretended they "weren't allowed" to show Wednesday matches on ITV1, while hoping nobody remembered they'd shown a Man U match on a Wednesday about three weeks earlier. They just clearly wanted to show Man U on ITV1 as they got big ratings.

There was uproar in the North East as Tyne Tees had previously been allowed to opt out of the network to show Newcastle rather than Arsenal. But for the crucial group game against Barcelona they were blocked from opting out of the Manchester United dead rubber on the Tuesday in order to show the Newcastle game the following evening. There was a lot of controversy about football fans being forced to watch Corrie while the crucial game was on a little-watched digital channel.

The previous season I believe that regions were able to opt out of the Tuesday game and show their local sides the following night, showing the Wednesday network schedule a day early.

Baffling that ITV wouldn't want to maximise their total audience by showing the matches with the most interest in each region.

Sky's Branding

It is not a logo change

all that's happened is that they have changed the logo

Saying this represents Sky's 'diminished clout' is overstating the situation.

Sky has as much influence as any overseas broadcaster has over a domestic league, the league will be as accommodating as possible but not when it's going to be detrimental to pretty much all other rights holders.

The La Liga fixture schedulers have more to think about than the few hundred thousand viewers on Sky. This kick off time meant the game avoided clashing with Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City - all globally supported teams playing big fixtures this weekend. Other major European teams like Bayern Munich and Juventus are also playing at other times this weekend.

It was worth losing those Sky viewers because when La Liga uses the slots that are 6pm GMT or later they lose the massive Asian audience due to time difference.

NEWS at TEN - January 2016 Relaunch

Frank Skinner was at 10pm when he moved to ITV.

A few years later when they fixed the news at 10.30 you had this ludicrous situation where Frank Skinner would come on for half an hour, they'd run a full news bulletin and then go back to the rest of The Frank Skinner Show after 11pm.

The failure of Setanta UK

PremPlus was probably best known for its James Nesbitt-fronted adverts - "50 games for £50" - which seemed to run at least once every advert break for months at a time.

I still don't think I've met anyone who actually subscribed.

A nice little archive snippet on the Tyne Tees website to celebrate Mike Neville's 80th birthday.

Also Clive Tyldesley (ITV Sport Select)

I don't think that's the case. ITV Sport Select did their own presentation for the season they were running, but used the same commentary as Premiership Plus on Sky - which was Alan Parry.

Alan Parry always had to refer to future games as being "on this channel" as depending on your provider you would be getting a totally different pre-match build-up and channel name.

Presumably they finally decided that calling a programme that airs virtually every week "Football Special" (not to be confused of course with "Soccer Special", the version of Soccer Saturday that airs, er, when it's not Saturday) was a daft idea.

Sky's Saturday games have been branded Saturday Night Football for the last three seasons, not Football Special .

London Live

or an independent organisation who can reduce costs further without degrading the news output.

Viacom. They could extend their Channel 5 news contract with ITN to cover the news output, they've got a massive existing catalogue of shows to fill the schedule, and they've already got all the back-office operations like ad sales.

I reckon they could turn London Live into a better channel and still cut costs.

They wouldn't have any interest in taking over a failing channel with expensive PSB requirements when they can easily launch a new one with no such handcuffs.

Nice EPG positions, though.

Watchdog

The last series was pretty poor all round I thought.

I note they've dropped the usual spring/summer series which would have been on air now and are just going straight for autumn.

EU debates on ITV

They are the two most prominent party leaders from each side.

Surely the two sides are The In Campaign and Vote Leave, as designated by the Electoral Commission. This is not a party political campaign or vote.
