Adding a separate weather/traffic presenter would be a good move. It would allow some breathing space for Anthony so he can concentrate on delivering the main news stories.

Similarly I'd like to see a separate news presenter during Wake Up. Although I like them both as presenters, neither Alex or Gavin are great when delivering the top and bottom of the hour summaries. Taking this away would allow them to concentrate on the interviews and features.

All costs money of course, but I think it would add a bit of polish to both shows.

Some more observations on The Evening News/Evening Show combo:-

I see they are doing a 7pm news update (preceded by travel and weather) - good stuff;

Personally I think it would look better if Anthony handed over to Scodie at 6.30 and The Evening Show continued seamlessly, rather than the news finishing and The Evening Show starting;

Still some agonising moments during introductions to The Evening Show - when Scodie mentioned a female guest and a male guest waved from the sofa.

Anthony not yet comfortable in the role of news presenter and looked a bit stunned when he said goodbye at 6.30! Probably because he was about to say hello again at 6.32!!

6/10 London Live - getting there, but must try harder!

I'm a bit confused (it doesn't take much) but I thought The Evening Show was meant to be an entertainment show - 60 minutes of the best that London has to offer?

I've just watched a 5 minute debate about equal pay - an ok debate, featuring a show biz journalist on the panel, but entertainment....?

I also watched some of The Evening News which was better than I imagined it would be, but to echo comments made previously, it was a little bit 'thrown together' and needs a bit more work.

Embarrassingly the listings for tonight's new programmes are incorrect in the Evening Standard

That just about sums it up...

London Live

London Live will go down in history as one of the worst media launches of recent years. Despite having the resources of The Standard and Independent behind them, plus seasoned professionals in charge of strategy, marketing and content, they still managed to completely balls it up!

But this sort of thing is not uncommon - think of TV-AM, GMTV, even Channel 4 - their launches we're not without hiccups and they went on to become very successful. Of course the market is very different now, more crowded, more sophisticated and less forgiving.

London Live need to get their act together fast and decide who they're going for in terms of audience and what that audience needs to become loyal viewers.

Today could be the day they finally get something right .....

Don't get me wrong, I really want London Live to succeed, despite the arrogance of their proprietor and management.

Even if they don't move The Evening News to 7, they should definitely run a headline update at 7 as part of The Evening Show, with another at 9 and ideally another at 11. That would at least be a start.

That would be a massive improvement on NTOS, but alas I don't think it will be enough to change the viewing habits of Londoners overnight.

The big problem Mark is that London Live doesn't have a strong local news service. It doesn't have a very strong local anything right now, and as much as I hope things will improve dramatically with The Evening News and The Evening Show, I'm not holding my breath.

London Live

I doubt London Live will risk losing the tiny audience they have in primetime by swapping one of their re-runs for a news bulletin, however good it is.

I actually quite like the easyjet orange and the simplicity of the graphics!

There have certainly been some improvements made in the last few weeks - I just hope they manage to pull off a decent 30 minute news show - and aren't just creating yet another dull talking heads slot

Another option might be to add a second edition of The Evening News at 7.30 to cater for commuters who don't get home in time for the 6pm edition

Channel 5

I was surprised Richard Desmond didn't pick up The Bill back in 2010 when ITV dropped it. It may not have pulling in the numbers it was in its heyday, but if they could have managed 2-3 million out of it, then Channel 5 would have had a hit.

I fear it's too late now for a revival, but maybe a weekly serial drama is something Viacom should look at.
