Am I missing something?

Kate Silverton has been on the couch since first thing this morning; and I walk down to work and pop the TV on and now Sian is there.

Hummuh?

I was just about to mention that. I presume the interview with James McAvoy is pre-recorded, albeit in the studio. First time I've noticed this.

Or has Sian appeared for this interview? Seems unlikely.

Definitely pre-recorded. They've just cut back to Bill and Kate on the sofa.

The same thing occurred yesterday - a prerecorded interview with Rob Lowe done by Bill and Sian, before cutting back to Bill and Kate. Unusual that it's happened twice this week then!

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Rebecca Pike back on the news channel tonight. I really think she's good and hope she does get more shifts.

Is the lady on overnights today Jannat Jalil? I haven't seen her for a long time as I believe she's been on BBC World.

Does Timbo do long shifts on consecutive days?

Yes, although this reputation does seem to have slightly dwindled just lately

Rachel Hodges presenting the main news on the news channel, wonder if she's doing the whole overnight shift?

Seem to be trying new people out on night shifts lately - also I haven't seen Alistair Yates for ages.

Matt Gooderick has posted on Twitter that James Dagwell has left the BBC today. Certainly haven't seen him on the night shift in a while - no mention of where he's going.

It was Rebecca Pike from Radio 2...

Thankyou, that is indeed the person I saw. Maybe she is going to be a new regular.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

I didn't see the overnight last night, but am guessing it wasn't Babita Sharma, as she was on daytime duty yesterday unusually. Other female presenters who have recently covered overnights are Maxine Croxall, Kasia Madera and Deborah MacKenzie. I would imagine it was one of them (the three blondes!)

No, it wasn't any of the usual overnight presenters in this case, which was unusual as there are as you say a few people to choose from, maybe the same person will be on again tonight.

Does anyone know who the lady doing the overnight shift yesterday was? I didn't recognise her or manage to catch her name.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Carole Walker has written a second letter to Ariel protesting at what she sees as the BBC breaking its promise to grant women over 50 more presenting shifts on the news channel. She is angry at having been given one shift so far this year, and believes Mark Thompson's announcement that older women would receive more prominence was a stunt.

The BBC has said that last year she presented all shifts they had agreed with her at the time of that announcement, that it was difficult to schedule around her full time job as a political correspondent and that she had turned down offers of relief shifts in the past due to her annual leave allowance.

On an unrelated note, Carrie Gracie will apparently be off until the end of April (having already been missing for the past few weeks) according to Simon McCoy on Twitter.

Was interesting to see Adnan Nawaz present the overnight shift yesterday - I wonder if he's replacing Naga Munchetty.

Odd...

BBC News Channel countdown without the countdown, followed by the "Impact" (BBC World News) music crashing in, then Tim welcoming viewers to Impact, then Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis butting in with more headlines, then being cut off by the BBC News Titles and then returning to Tim Willcox in Egypt.

Yes, clearly attempts to coordinate world and the news channel for the TOTH went very wrong just then - after the titles interrupted Emily mid sentence you could still hear her and Jon talking, presumably trying to figure out what had happened before we rejoined Tim, who already seemed to have started talking - Jon and Emily looked very confused throughout the sequence!
