New BBC Singapore studio

What the f.... did i just watch. Laughing

Possibly the most surreal moment i've ever seen on a news programme.

Rico running around the studio chasing a dragon... okay well i'm done.

Did you get this, sounds hilarious.

I hope someone managed to cap it or the BBC posts it online because it was utterly bizarre and brilliant.

Rico is just the best. Laughing

New BBC Singapore studio

The UK opt was horrific and needs to be re-thought.

I've never understood why domestic dont have idents and pre-recorded CAs like World.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

My World News Stream picked today to take a dump so i guess i'll have to wait until midnight to watch it on the iPlayer.

But so far what i've seen of Newsday is superb.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

However, the "yellow" section casts a red light on the white furniture in front of it, so the yellow and orange may well be the result of a dodgy phone camera.

The main advantage of using fixed colour LED strips is brightness. You get a lot more white light out of a while LED strip than an RGB one, which could be crucial in a space which can be affected by natural light from outside.

The lower lightbox on the catwalk is lit red in that image, but lit white in regular use. Yet still appeared to be brown when switched off in later images of the completed studio.

Even the white plastic covered ceiling ring has appeared crisp white, and a slightly pinky white in both E and C when compared to other white lightboxes in the same image.

Lack of evidence is not evidence, so i guess until an insider says otherwise it is a moot point.

I swear, every few months in here there's a spirited "Can The Lightboxes In Studio E Turn Other Colors" debate, with no convincing evidence either way to get everyone on a consensus.

Yet there is a photo on the previous page that shows the lightboxes coloured orange and yellow.
The brown colour coverings (diffusers?) are uniform across every single set in NBH and some we've seen in the nations and regions.
Most professional LED lighting that i've seen in images of NBH and elswhere seem to use RGB to create white.
All of the other LED lightboxes in all of the other NBH studios use RGB, so why would studio E be any different.
Having fixed red lights or white lights with a red plastic cover would likely create an inflexibility when it came to lighting the set for broadcast. Much easier to have RGB as the shade of red could be changed if it wasnt quite right.

My conclusion...
If lightboxes in Studio E are fixed to Red or White in the lighting computer they are still probably capable of producing every other colour.

Ministry of Mayhem

Find this one quite difficult to visualise actually as such sets very much rely on the crowd filling them, but really appreciate a mock that isn't GMB or BBC News.

I concur.

I think a bit of re-texturing re-lighting and re-rendering will improve this. As far as i can tell, the majority of the models are fairly close to the pictures of the original set i've seen.

For help with visualisation, maybe if possible OP could post some images that are populated with those creepy grey people for scale?

I get the impression that you're going to keep tweaking this. I look forward to seeing those improvements.

The X Factor 2016

I went to one of the Wembley auditions and Rita Ora and especially Nick Grimshaw fit in well on the new panel. He's a definite improvement on Louis and genuinely funny in parts. Rita was perhaps a little too earnest and 'Voice'-like in some of her critiques.

I think the issue this year will be the lack of Dermot (and now Peter Dickson). Those changes were needless.

I know people who have said they're not going to watch because they hated Ora on The Voice. I cant be the only one who finds Nick Grimshaw utterly intolerable.

I think O'Leary and Dickson have made the right choice to leave. They probably dont want to go down on what is obviously a sinking ship.

Amazon Instant Video for Clarkson, Hammond & May

I had a Now TV box which was £20 for 3 months when Game of Thrones was on so if Amazon did something similar it would definitely attract new users.

or could Amazon potentially sell this to ITV or another UK broadcaster a few weeks after the online airing?

New BBC Singapore studio

DTV posted:
Looks fantastic, something that we've been hoping for for years. Now just got to wait for Washington to update their studio from it's odd 2006/2008 hybrid look. Hopefully Newsday will be getting it's own audio identity at last, it always seemed like they forgot to tell David Lowe that their was a new programme in the works.

I always got the impression that it was done 'on the hoof' and that they perhaps didnt think Newsday would be the success it has turned out to be. Would also perhaps explain why its taken until now for them to invest in a new Singapore Bureau. There is also the possibility that they have been forced out and took the opportunity to upgrade. Their view at Shaw was dwindling as there was a huge development going up right across the street. That could possibly be one of the reasons, but i doubt we'll ever know the reality behind it.

NO MORE NZnewswatch

I decided on a long post because I thought i needed to explain my rating criteria fully and unabiguously but i accept by doing so that my post was unfairly ambiguous as to which parts applied to this mock.

So let me try again...

The Sky News studio is very visually appealing.

I have been forced to give this mock 1/5 because it failed one of MY basic criteria: Spatial Dimensions.

It is a requirement for me that any original Studio Set design use the dimensions of the space it will occupy, and for that space to exist in reality. I've been pretty consistent on this and there are going to be people who disagree but that is just how i see it.

Once a mock fails one of my basic criteria there is no point suggesting basic improvements or commenting on things like time spent or originality or quality of execution, because the mock itself has failed regardless of how pretty the pictures look.

As to whether i have gone 'too far' ...i guess that is for others to decide. It is regrettable that the OP seems to have chosen to leave the forum based on my post. It was not my intention to drive anyone away with my remarks.

I realise that my posts are blunt, but i dont agree with the seemingly pervasive need to sugar-coat opinions in this gallery.

My opinion is unchanged, but i would like to apologise for the manner in which it was delivered. It was not my intention to offend.
Critique, bilky asko and DTV gave kudos
