CBBC Channel

Also if you look at James' site, he designed a proposal for a new look Newsnight which aligns it more with the BBC Two brand.
Check it out as it's a very good design proposal and I think it should be chosen for the new look.

Being picky, in 1990 that would have been the EEC. Good find, though!

Thanks!
There's quite a lot of old ARD and ZDF closedowns on YouTube, with or without the German anthem
ARD seemed to pick which version of the anthem and what clips/pictures should be shown. They chose either an orchestra version, a vocal version or that beautiful violin version they had in 1979.

At one point Bayerisches Fernsehen went to the trouble of closing down with the Bayernhyme, the Deutschelandlied, and Ode to Joy for good measure.

Actually I spotted a ZDF closedown from December 1990 right after the reunification of East and West, where they play the German anthem, followed by the anthem of Europe.

There's also this little animation that plays during the European anthem.
It starts with the familiar stars from the European flag, zooming outwards into the screen.

Then behind it is an outline of the map of Europe, with 12 EU nations (at the time) highlighted in blue on that map. Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Greece, the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, France and Luxembourg. All their flags appear on screen.

Then they show images of 3 EU locations in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg, whilst the 12 flags spin around. The European star circle zooms onto the screen again.

ARD never used to close down with the (West) German national anthem until May 1985. Originally, they'd play the anthem with the words to it on screen, and by 1987, a vocal version was played with aerial shots of western German cities including Hamburg, Kiel and Hanover. They'd often change the images shown during closedown to static images of various sights.

In 1989, the anthem film showed various political figures in post-war German history like in this video.
Here's an example of a closedown from 1994 with a beautiful violin version of Deutschlandlied, originally used once on the 20th July 1979 to commemorate the anniversary of the 20th July plot attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler by Claus von Stauffenberg.

Here is the special 20th July plot version as well. The anthem starts at around the 5:39 mark

BBC News: Reith Style

It looks nice in purple but I can already imagine the public outrage about it for looking very un-BBC. I think we're gonna be stuck with red in the new look unfortunately.

They used blue before so why not that colour?
Makes it look a bit more serious than red.

Eurovision 2019

First preview of the postcards was released today. Inspiration seems to have come from the BBC ‘Rhythm & Movement’ idents!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucDklqRKF8k

Not quite. The theme of the postcards is called "Dancing Israel" and it has the performing artists dancing in different places across Israel with lots of dance groups from the country. They'll have different types of dance like ballet, tango, folk and modern dance.

I like the stained glass window, it gives a nice effect, except that the ITV logo seems to be an afterthought.

I do like her idea of it being based on childrens' TV sets with its bright colours and simple shapes but yeah, it's like she added the logo as an afterthought really.

Discovery Channel: New logo for 2019

But if it's going to be used on screen and at such a small resolution, no-ones going to notice how nice it looks as it'll be tiny.

Yes, because that's the only place the logo is used.

The D with globe will probably be used as their DOG

Discovery Channel: New logo for 2019

Isn't that the same font Digital Spy went with, or something very similar?

Digital Spy uses the font Poppins, Discovery uses a font called Circular.

It was designed by font foundry Lineto and it's the font used by Spotify (though theirs is a custom version)

Discovery Channel: New logo for 2019

Kunst posted:
Discovery Channel UK (along with some others in EMEA) hasn't had a proper new look since the arrival of the current logo, so this refresh will definitely feel "fresh"

Yeah, it'll be a welcome refresh of the channel, will put it in line with the modern, flat-inspired branding their sister channels have.
