New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

Beautiful ident. I'm glad they've not gone down the stock footage route, as stunning as a lot of a nature cinematography is. It's got a vaguely BBC HD feel to it with the scene shifting into another one before reverting back. Is there just one ident?

FWIW, on Virgin the channels are labelled as "SkyDocsHD" and "SkyNaturHD".

I'm guessing Sky will add more later on.
Like with Sky Crime, they started out with 2 and they added some new ones later on

New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

Are we getting any updates to the logos on News or Sports? Or are they on hold due to the Pandemic?

On hold.

Though looking through some Behance pages on the Sky Crime and Sky Comedy branding today, it seems the expected presumption about the eventual Sky Sports logo is looking to be right... the Sky logo adopting the blue

*

Also I noticed Sky Cinema will adopt similar branding as well.
As for Sky News, it's uncertain Sad

Well the launch of Sky Documentaries was a damp squib. I know new channel launches aren't such a big thing nowadays but there wasn't even a 'Welcome to Sky Documentaries' announcement or anything, just the announcer saying about McMillions available on demand.
Also think the ident would have looked better if the logo opened up at the same time as the image

The idents for Documentaries doesn't look bad. Bit too simplistic tho

I'll admit Sky Nature's idents are stunning!

Totally agree about Sky Nature's ident, its beautiful. Hope there are more in the collection

Better keep an eye out then Wink

Eurovision 2021 - Netherlands - NPO/AVROTROS/NOS

Yes the EBU now have rebuilt the archive of Eurovisions for internal use from different broadcasters off-air recordings, even fan recordings, to build as clean a copy as possible from the different sources. They even dubbed the stereo audio over from the FM simulcasts where available.

Which leads to the question, when was the contest first offered to broadcasters with Stereo audio?

How about a definitive list:

First Colour (1968 isn't it?)
First Stereo Audio
First 16:9
First HD (also first 5.1?)

etc

I did see the question raised - I think on Twitter - as to when the commentary moved from 'phone' quality, certainly as far as the BBC is concerned. There is a big jump between 1980 (Netherlands) and 1983 (Munich) - leaving out 1981 & 1982 given Dublin to London and Harrogate to London would have been much easier.

As with the other changes it varied between broadcaster, using 1984 as an example - the SVT commentary is 'phone' quality, the BBC and ARD are are 'full' bandwidth (well at least 7-8khz).

Kiev 2005 was the first in 16:9. The last ever one in 4:3 was Istanbul 2004.

And Athens 2006 was the first in HD.

Eurovision 2021 - Netherlands - NPO/AVROTROS/NOS

Somewhat related to Eurovision, during the Polish broadcast of last night's show, Viki Gabor (winner of JESC 2019) revealed the logo of the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
*

The theme is "Move The World" and the contest will take place on the 29th November in Warsaw, but as a minor scale event. The EBU and TVP are having the contest take place in a smaller TV studio as opposed to the big arenas that we're normally used to.
Just be thankful we still have Junior Eurovision this year.

New teaser promo for Sky Documentaries
I really like the minimalistic but serious tone they went for with the branding with the black and white photos, the folding out animations and the red and white colour scheme.
Looks very nice.

So we will have documentaries, news, sports and movies all using red. Is there only a small number of colours they pick from?

They do use different shades of red, Documentaries looks lighter than the one used for News and Cinema. Sky Vegas also uses red. The blue coloured logos also use different shades.

However, they do seem to unnecessarily restrict themselves to only a few basic colours, although Crime, Comedy and Nature have drifted away from the usual set of late.

Also the text on the Documentaries uses a slightly noticeable of grey as opposed to the usual white colour they use

Sky... again

Hi,

Once again I'm exploring the world of Sky, following on from the release of the new channel logos which I really like the look of.

I thought I'd change up how I would usually post my mocks and take the release parts as I go along root, rather than what I normally do by releasing the bulk within the first post.

This mock started from the point where Sky refreshed the logos on their channels, to match the style used by Sky Comedy, and for the majority of that time, I've made a new look for Sky News by mainly adapting the Next IPP used on the entertainment channels.

One of the changes I did make was to reintroduce the proper opening music to the TOTH, which I then combined with the current bed (firstly, to match the existing captures I used but secondly, as I quite liked the sound of it). I have kept the current TOTH opener style, however to match the length of the music, I did extend the animation, thinking of new ways people interact with Sky News, which resulted in a fourth scenario representing smartwatches, and a fifth that represents smart speakers (*cough*Alexa*cough)

So far, I have only applied the new graphics to a video for Kay Burley @Breakfast, but I am making one or two more to show off a few other situations, more of which will be explained later in the post. Then I'll do some stuff relating to the more general entertainment channels.

I thought about having the NBC News logo as an option in case a correspondent was used, while it would be rare, I liked the idea, I was experimenting with doing the same with the Sky News logo as usually happens in America, but I decided against it.

Election Graphics

The next video I'm working on is for applying my graphics to the last election, here are some stills, but I would like to know if there is anything that you think could be different, as I could then altered the video to fit. For the most part, I've just adapted the current style to fit in with what I've already done...

I would like for the count to use the new adapted Sky Ultra font rather than Sky Text, so I've supplied both options...

and to finish this post off, here's pretty much every channel logo adapted to the new style, as with my first Sky mock from a few years ago, I've reintroduced Sky Three, which means I have to figure out what to do with Sky Two. I've also altered the Sky History logo by taking the colouring from the gold logo and putting into the main background of the logo, however I would plan on using this in conjunction with the two black and white background logos.

I've posted it in a spoiler as it's a very long image, in addition to this very long post.

How and where did you get the Sky Ultra font?

To the end of May apparently.
