South West England & CI Thread

Something I've noticed in recent weeks/months on ITV News West Country...

The programme name of course changed to incorporate the phrase "West Country" (rather than plain old "West") in 2009, as part of the amalgamation with the Plymouth region.

However, outside of the actual name/title of the programme, the presenters have generally continued to refer to the region as e.g. "here in the West" (look, no "Country"!) on the HTV version until at least as recently as early 2016.

It's only in very recent times that I've noticed them starting to generally say e.g. "here in the West Country", thus finally bringing the way that the region is generally described during the bulletins in-line with what the actual title calls it.

They also like talking about the "South West" (government region) when it suits them to do so, which seems to be at least once per week most weeks. I didn't live in this region until long after "HTV News" was dead, but I doubt that "south west" was ever uttered on the programme in the pre-ITV plc era (and/or pre-2009)?

Until recently, on those occasions that the HTV version had the luxury of being the live edition the presenters' opening blurb would include something like "we're live across the West tonight". The opening wording would of course be more vague if the programme was the pre-recorded edition. Nowadays if there is any bragging about being genuinely live to be had, it seems to be reserved for e.g. throws to OBs etc rather than at the top of the programme.

I have also noticed that there is now only one option on the ITV News website when selecting ITV West Country as "Your Area". It used to have "ITV West Country (West)" and "ITV West Country (East)". The live news feed for ITV West Country now covers both areas with two weather forecasts uploaded daily, one named "Your weather for the West" and the other "Your weather for the South West".

If you google ITV West Country you can still select different areas of the region via topics/tags, a feature which they don't seem to be using to it's best potential. I can't see a quick way of doing this easily on the ITV News website itself!

Channel 5 - New Look Feb 11th

I can't help but feel Channel 5 would make a little noise over the whole thing.

I'm on the press list and haven't heard anything yet.

Speculation. Not long to wait now to see if true or not.

It's not tonight, if that's what people are thinking. Won't be long, though.

If not tonight, what about this afternoon at 5, just before 5 News?

Eastenders - live week

P
Do you think any of the other cast members, apart from Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell ) and maybe Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), knew about Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Beale) returning? The fact that scene was filmed away from Eastenders set may have been to keep it secret from the rest of the cast. It would be nice to think the cast had a surprise too!

So the cast were in the dark about Gillian Taylforth's comeback scene. In the Backstage programme Adam Woodyatt said that the storyline has to be discussed next week because it was kept so secret. Leticia Dean also said she didn't know about it until she saw it happen.

The tweets Daran Little posted last night:

Eastenders - live week

I have just watched the Q&A interview with Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Sharon Batten and Hetti Bywater which went out live on Facebook just after the flash back episode:

https://www.facebook.com/eastenders - look for the live stream post

They reveal that the actor who plays Bobby was only told on Monday that he was to be the killer (his dad was told before) and Hetti Bywater only found out 8 hours before it was shown live.
A lot of the production crew were said to be surprised by the Kathy appearance, but they didn't say if other cast members knew.

This Morning

Does anybody know what happened on This Morning? Just saw the end of an interview with Bear Gryllls and the main window looks smashed and glass is all over the studio floor. They just showed the window boarded up after the break.

South West England & CI Thread

After catching up on the BBC Spotlight decamp to Bristol, I watched the lunchtime edition of BBC Points West out of interest to see if a dual region programme would be broadcast again. As soon as it started I thought generic regional titles were being used to cover both Spotlight and Points West areas, but no, it seems Points West have refreshed their opening titles. The grey footage of landmarks have been replaced with less iconic coloured footage. All three bulletins today have had different versions.

BBC National/News Channel from New Broadcasting House

Problems with the ticker on the News Channel at the moment. It is currently showing breaking news from a couple of weeks ago. It mentions the implications the explosions in Boston will have to the London Marathon this Sunday.
