Yes, in reality it was probably axed ages ago as they didn’t film a series for 2020 when they normally would.

Still seems odd though and like you say they might change their minds given the repeat ratings, which have been really good. Although it would probably not be able to film until 2021 anyway, probably not the easiest show to adapt for Covid, would they have to clean the obstacles after every person?

Chris Kamara seems to have suggested that Ninja Warrior UK has been axed:

Bit of a surprise if so as it tends to rate fairly well. The past couple of series have played in early 6.30pm slots but performed pretty well in them, consistently netting 20%+. Plus they’ve just repeated two series back to back to very respectable numbers, so this seems like an odd call. Particularly as it added some variety to a fairly gameshow-heavy slate.

Rolling In It

For 6.30pm on a Saturday in August on one of the hottest days of the years that is very well indeed.

It's very good, equated to a 27% share.

For comparison, The Voice Kids afterwards got 2.8m. On BBC1 it was 1.9m for Total Wipeout followed by 2.5m for Pointless Celebrities (all of which had later timeslots).

Sounds like this rated quite well given the slot, 3.4m apparently.

Yes agree it was far better than Small Fortune.

Stephen Mulhern certainly helped, and in lesser hands it might not have worked at all, but if anything it might work better again with improved celebs. None of the Corrie stars really added much tonight, next week’s celebs are Joel Dommett, Chris Kamara and Gemma Collins who (love or loathe GC) might add more to it. Think Jimmy Carr is on a later episode as well who could be good.

This was nothing earth shattering, but I don’t see where the rumours about it being unbroadcastably bad came from. I’ve seen far worse.

It was basically fine, not something I’d rush to watch every week but personally found it more watchable than Catchphrase. Might do OK (share wise anyway, it’s not going to get a big audience in the slot it has).

Coronavirus - Impact on live/recorded shows

In For a Penny has started filming the next series today. Not a show I expected to be back filming so soon, so it'll be interesting to see how they have adapted it.

Sounds like The Voice are using a panel of viewers for their kids show, which is fair enough. If performances have to be pre-recorded in the circumstances that is understandable, especially for BGT, that is fair enough but I hope they don't go down the route some Australian shows have of recording different (and therefore fake) outcomes for the result where a final is pre-recorded but contains a live vote.

As a one off in the circumstances I wouldn’t be too fussed if they went down the route of recording different endings. It’s not ideal but would mean they could keep a public vote which I think is more important than the reactions. I think Champions suffered for having the result recorded in advance and the winner leaking.

Although from the sound of reports it seems both BGT and The Voice are going to attempt a live final which might be easier said than done.

Now that BGT is weekly they could go down the Strictly route of doing a pre-recorded results show. Record the performance show on Thursday or Friday to air on Saturday, record the results Sunday afternoon to air Sunday evening? Then they could still have an overnight public vote although I’m not sure how feasible it would be.

What’s confusing about it?

I wouldn’t be surprised if The Voice and BGT use a similar format for their semi-finals, there were rumours of a pre-record for BGT.

Sounds like both shows do plan on including a live final though, not sure how that will work.

ITV have released their press release for the autumn schedule. Soaps will return to six times a week in mid-September, I'm a Celebrity goes ahead and as previously announced BGT and The Voice finish their series on Saturday nights. Entertainment wise their main new commission is Don't Rock the Boat, with 12 celebs rowing from Lands End to John O'Groats. Soccer Aid will also return being played behind closed doors.

The drama slate seems very poor though, I guess as a consequence of the lock down. Only four are mentioned, and between them they only total 15 episodes.

I believe they do have some more dramas on the shelf, but seem to be saving them for early 2021. Guess they’re being cautious in case there’s further disruption to filming. Apparently “about a dozen” dramas are going back into production soon.

I think all things considered though it’s a respectable Autumn slate with a fair bit more new content than might have been expected a few months back. I’m sure there will still be some repeat nights and I’m a Celebrity is going to be challenging but if they can pull that off then they’ll have done very well.

Also confirms that BGT will be weekly which I think we knew already. Will be a tight squeeze to fit it in between the end of America’s Got Talent in mid-September and the start of I’m a Celebrity in mid-November. Assume Cowell and Ant & Dec will be tested repeatedly rather than having to quarantine for a fortnight each which would mean at least one of them would have to miss multiple shows.

Britain's Got Talent 2020 Set Design- Discussion

The account doesn't give a source so not sure where that's been announced.

I'm not sure how social distancing will be easier to enforce in a smaller space but we'll see.

Thanks for the replies about the Apollo. Based on that I think they should look to still stage it at the Apollo if at all possible. Partially because even with a smaller capacity, they’d be able to get more people into the Apollo whilst social distancing than they would at LH2, but also there’s more space for the acts and I think BGT just works better in a theatre. Tables would work well I think, probably the best way of having the largest possible audience whilst social distancing.

Plus as others have said it would be a show of support for the theatre industry and the Apollo would surely be glad to have them. They’ve already lost Live at The Apollo this year.

The only scenario in which they should maybe use LH2 is if they can’t have any kind of audience at all, as in that instance an empty theatre wouldn’t be great. Or I guess if the show possibly being weekly means they can’t use the Apollo, but given that I can’t imagine there are going to be many, if any, theatre productions this Autumn, that shouldn’t be an obstacle.
