Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Expect Daybreak to get it's highest viewing figures ever on thursday as every 12 year old girl in the UK will be glued to Daybreak and Lorraine as Justin Bieber is a guest.

He isn't really that big in the UK, its more of an American phenomenon (if you can even call him that).

Really? How come he keeps getting to #1 then? And home come his arena size shows keep selling out?

'Keeps'? He had a #1 album, which isn't certified unlike most other places where he has charted. He doesn't have a single certification from the UK charts, and hasn't had a #1 UK single. He isn't that big in the UK.

Not saying he isn't successful by any stretch- he is- but he just isn't as big as the media would have us believe.

Can't believe I'm arguing over Justin Beiber at my age Embarassed Laughing .

I managed to properly watch some of this mornings newshour and then the bit with Aled & Lorraine. I like Aled & Lorraine a lot but I was disappointed when they came on this morning and it suddenly seemed very dated. Matt & Ranvir were brilliant along with the slightly newsier focus. They are definitely the long term future of the programme, I do hope at some point in the near future (e.g. over Christmas) they're given a test run in the 7-8.30am slot.

Incidentally, I don't think Ranvir is that great after 7am reading the news, far too much 'umming' and 'arring'- which is strangely not there when shes presenting prior to 7am.

Strictly Come Dancing 2012

They should have just left the theme tune. After two or three weeks noone would have cared and noone will have remembered what the 'old' one was like anyway. People just don't like change.

Not a bad show so far, but can't help but think the whole 'who is your partner' bit is pointless because they've been training with them already, as seen with the VTs!

X Factor 2012

The UK version really is lacking in punch, nobody takes a Gary Barlow put down that seriously, same with Louis and Tulisa and Nicole seems to lack bite. I'd still rather Mel B was back, least she was entertaining!

Louis is just part of the furniture, Tulisa is a cheap Cheryl, they were too late to get Nicole on board (she should have been put on the UK one last year when she was still in good public favour) and Gary is just boring. The problem with Nicole and Tulisa is that they were the both supposed to be the 'Cheryl' of X Factor UK and X Factor USA in 2011, so they're basically the same.

They're in a bit of a rubbish situation because the programme needs stability but they need another upheaval. If they dig deep they'll get Mel B no problem, and if they try hard enough they could probably get Cheryl back too, together they'd probably be enough to sort the problems of the last 2 series and give the show its spark back. Even during the current ratings slump it still remains one of the biggest shows on TV, whilst BGT, Strictly and I'm a Celebrity have all had rough periods but have managed to put work in and get the right names involved to get them all back on top.

X Factor 2012

I liked the way they put the American one together too, it was almost fly on the wall and everything was still somehow described (e.g. showing a news report to set the location). The only thing I didn't like was the TOWIE-esque scenes, but Americans are more accustomed to them so I guess that won't be really an issue. But in terms of the ratings it doesn't seem to be performing that well (and being overshadowed by The Voice) so it will be interesting to see if it grows, and whether FOX decide to continue with the programme after this year or not.

As above I completely agree about the panel, his two 'out of the box' panels this year have been superb- firstly the new Britain's Got Talent panel with Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, and now the X Factor USA one. It's a shame he just shoehorned Nicole into ours this year instead of biting the bullet and doing another revamp, I like her a lot and am willing to give the 4 of them a chance once the auditions are over (because we haven't seen much of her yet) but it doesn't seem to be working just yet.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Is Richard Arnold still as ghastly as ever?

If there was an award for understatement of the year, you'd get it.

how has the viewing figures fared.. there hasn't been that much in the press! no news good news? love Laura tobin!

600-700,000. Not great and is so far the least watched version of Daybreak. Disappointing start but if they ride it out for a few weeks/months instead of giving in to viewers (and they can't really go back to the GMTV format any more than they have) then it should pick up a bit. It always does when viewers return from Sky News (originally going because the new version of Daybreak has become too newsy) or from BBC Breakfast.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and they should have reverted to this format in January when they slapped yellow paint over everything instead of having the Daybreak/GMTV/One Show hybrid we've had for the past 8 months.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Richard Arnold is on, and Kate and Richard keep talking over each other, and they've just cut Kate off mid sentence to a clip. Ugh.

Kate really frustrates me and her exchanges with Richard is part of the reason why. When she lead GMTV and Daybreak, she was unbearable and I really disliked watching her. When she is the relief presenter on GMTV and both versions of Daybreak so far, I really enjoy watching her, shes much calmer and less ego centric. But on the odd occasion (such as with Richard) she seems to slip up, reminding everyone why she hasn't got the job over Lorraine.

Granada Reports

I didn't watch but their extended specials are usually brilliant. That is why I really hope ITV backtrack on their plans to integrate the regional news into the national news. Some of the other regions might not be great but Granada Reports is brilliant when it wants to be (and also won a BAFTA a few years back) so it would be a shame for it to be relegated to an 'in other news' segment lasting about 15-20 minutes. That said, Granada Reports does seem to be one of the very few regional programmes ringfenced from any structural changes.

Paralympic Closing Ceremony

Can't help but feel disappointed by this. It's like they saw the Olympics closing ceremony and decided to copy it but without booking many guests. I feel like I've seen this all before which I shouldn't really be getting from such an event. I ended up watching Dragon's Den for a while earlier on.

Celebrity Big Brother

The main show really needs some work, less flashy effects, less TOWIE, less of a magazine format.

Have to say the live shows have improved vastly this series (bar the live pleas to be kept in), my only issue is Brian, he really needs Emma presenting with him. I really would't mind some elements stolen from the new BB Australia series such as the points system of nominations, housemates have 5 points to allocate to those who they want to nominate. The points can be split 4/1 between two people or 3/2, they're done semi face to face in a glass sound-proof chamber where the housemates sit behind them. Also could borrow the no-outside contact rule and properly strict punishments!

For the whole approach towards the show, it needs to go backwards to go forwards. After a good start I completely lost interest after a few days (again) because it was just annoying to keep up with. BB works better when it is completely stripped back. I don't mind the odd bit of editing when necessary (e.g. nominations, to speed up tasks etc) but making a montage out of the smallest thing (such as getting up) is just silly.

The live shows have also been taken too far and are overproduced to the point where they just look tacky and cheap. Again, they need completely stripping back and going further than your suggestion, I think Emma should take over completely. She is very similar to Davina and that is a figure that has been lacking for quite a while. Emma also has a more robust interview style.

I also feel that with Channel 5 wanting younger people in the house, they're completely ignoring what viewers of the show actually want. The winners of the first four Channel 5 series' were all the oldest. The winner of the one just gone was one of the oldest, with the combined age of the top 3 well over 100! If that isn't evidence enough of what viewers want, then I don't know what is.

How are you going to keep a group rehersal secret with 14 celebrities and their publicity hungry agents involved?Last year the photographers got the photos as well (Holly Valance, Jason Donovan and Alex Jones were snapped). They were obviously expecting them again this year and provided them with masks to keep some of the mystery.

At least they did a better job than Channel 5.
