The video directly above where it says 1990s and the last one saying 1980s - Mike Gower reading afternoon bulletin from 1987. Shame there is no main edition video. I quite like the titles back then. Viv and Shereen used to present this version a lot.

I think TV ark has got the date wrong for that video....

We believe this was in use from later 1986? Ealry 1988: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=I7r9F2n_-k0#t=27s

Red look: ???? So it could have been late 1988? - until some point in 1990?:

Here is a clip of flim title ST in 1990: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov1pCK60O1o can anyone date it?

Perhaps so - yet this was definitely the look late 1989 like I had said at the start of my posts relating to this matter.

Shame you have no (and I cannot find any) links Youtube or otherwise with what I like to call (sound like Patricia Hodge in Miranda) the red look.

Edit - in fact your post with the link into 30 years of Scotland Today shows a different look to the one you post for 1988. It really is a shame we cannot seem to get a better video of this 'red' era. Hey ho Sad

I thought there was a revamp between the black, white and red look of 1989 and the IMO best version between 1993 and 1996?

I remember they had the film reel titles with the studio desk having a thistle at each end was that 1991 to 1993?

Yeah TV Ark shows the look I mean. I recall the black, white and red look at the end of 1989 but perhaps this was changed in 1990?

http://www2.tv-ark.org.uk/itv_scotland/news.html

No I think that was kept until 1991 as 1991 was the new revamp as I think that was when Viv Lumsden joined.

Ah thanks - yeah I thought it was kept a while longer than 1990 but I was not always around the Central Belt back then.

623058, the red look I was referring to was the look before the film reel titles.

I cant see a red look on tv ark? which video is that suppose to be?

No, viv joined in 1989... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=JUok9vtDXmA#t=81s

Yes she did. I think I am correct in saying that Jackie Bird was Viv's replacement on BBC Reporting Scotland in 1989?

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Dan S posted:
Monday was actually Tim Willcox & Martine Croxall! (Tim did the 11am shift with Carole)

Tuesday was Tim & Carole, Wednesday was Simon & Carole, and yes today was Simon & Carrie as usual.

...tomorrow its Simon and the Witch.

Odious comment.

Flippant, yes. But not in the least bit odious.

It was an obscure reference to a 1980s CBBC show... this is a TV forum after all.

Cool - but who are you referring to - I was not watching the channel at this time.

ITV criticized - Southern Scotland "unsatisfactory" news

To be honest I really dislike Stv and there is no need for them or utv for that matter. viewers around the country should receive the same channel 3 as in England which is ITV but obviously with their own local news.

I suspect it might be only STV viewers who see STV as a bad thing. STV and UTV are the last bastions of the true ITV network and it would be a shame (though interesting) to see ITV buy that out. As a Welsh man how I wish HTV had also managed to survive being swallowed up by ITV. It wouldn't be so bad if ITV Wales was allowed to operate as effectively an affiliate of ITV Plc with it's own identity and programming independent of ITV Plc, but sadly that is not the case and ITV Wales has to do what chiefs in London think is best for them, while at least STV and UTV can make decisions based on what they believe viewers in Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively want from them.

From what I have seen of the ITV regions I am delighted I live in STV land. It was hard moving from Grampian to STV and the quality far from perfect yet much superior to the dog's breakfasts down south. This is merely my opinion but I have seen more than one broadcast from each region outside STV land every year or two since 2001.

BBC News - The Music

IMO the best titles were the flying fish fingers for the Nine O'Clock News and the 84-93 Six O'Clock News. I also liked the One O'Clock News from this era as well. It was good when the bulletins had distinctive titles but I doubt we'd go back to that now.

I think the current music for BBC News is immediately identifiable and is here to stay for a very long time to come.

I wonder if we will see any changes when the network bulletins and news channel move in to NBH in March?
