…and finally

Hello everyone, given that I already posted on this farewell thread, I nevertheless feel, that on this, the last day of TV Forum, I would also like to take an opportunity to say some proper last words, that I actually already told privately to Asa a few days ago, but I feel that it's best if I also share them here with all of you, this website was launched on the 22nd of March 2001, that was the day I turned 3 years old, so first I want to say that it's been awesome sharing a birthday with this amazing website, and even though I only joined recently, as all you can see, I wanted to say that I enjoyed every minute of it. I joined this website at a time when I was very depressed, and this wonderful community has helped me to overcome my depression (it's a process I am still doing), and to be honest, it's very sad that this one was the last birthday that I was going to share with TV Forum itself, but it made it even more special, in fact I can say it's been probably my best birthday. So I just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for everything! I hope I will see you all on TV Live Forum. Also given that TV Forum will become a read only website, a sort of time capsule if you will, I also want to say, not only to myself, but to everybody else who will read this in the future, that I hope that all of your dreams and wishes will come true, and I hope that the world of the future will be a world full of peace, love and understanding. I wish you the very best in your life, and I hope that you will be able to get of this dark tunnel that you are in. All the very best!
With deep gratitude
Roger Darthwell
PS: Given that everybody are leaving last videos, I thought to do the same as well, both of them recorded on the 9th of November 1997

Here is the last ever closedown on BBC One

My apologies if I have ever behaved badly, it's been emotional, it's been a blast! See you all on TV Live Forum, and Asa, thank you for the very hard work that you have done over 20 years, all the very very best to you and I hope we will see you on TV Live Forum! Goodbye TV Forum!

BBC Publishes Annual Plan

Worth remembering that Alba isn't solely a BBC channel, its part run and funded by MG Alba aka the Gaelic Media Service.

A deal can be made with MG Alba (Reminder that S4C used to be a bilingual channel before the digital switchover), and the dual language track suggested by interestednovice seems a great solution, I mean the ARTE channel in France and Germany has dual French and German language audio tracks, so this idea can work for a potential BBC Alba Scotland

BBC Publishes Annual Plan

I agree with what others have said about BBC Four.

It’s probably not the end of any new programmes but I think the BBC are trying to set viewer expectations with these sorts of lines about it being “archive focused”.

Essentially, it’s obvious that the content budget for BBC Four-type content is being cut. It’s also the case that BBC Two has some holes in it’s schedule (partly due to other budget cuts) and would benefit from some of the BBC Four content being shown there.

So the BBC have done the logical thing and moved (you could say promoted) some BBC Four content to BBC Two. This largely leaves only archive content on the channel. However, the BBC does have a massive archive and it makes sense to broadcast something due to the airtime “going spare”, as has been discussed in the context of BBC Three.

It seems to me, then, that we have reached a sensible compromise in the current approach to these channels. BBC Three online never really made sense when the distribution cost to continue broadcasting some linear output would have been minimal.

Where the BBC has created a rod for their own back, however, seems to be with the BBC Scotland channel. There isn’t really space to distribute it, and it is too costly, but now it exists they can’t axe it for political reasons. Equally, it means programmes lose prominence in practical terms because they aren’t being broadcast on BBC One or BBC Two - and they have created a headache for themselves by getting rid of BBC Two Scotland.

I still can’t see the channel lasting long term, but I can’t imagine how the BBC could ever axe it. Maybe they could merge it with BBC Alba and, at the same time, bring back BBC Two Scotland (which might allow them to spin it as an expansion of services for Scotland)?

Great idea, seems to be the best solution

International News Presentation: Past and Present

My last ever post on this thread, a news bulletin on Canal+ from 1998 (Alain Contrepas, who is hosting the bulletin, is apparently still at Canal+ to this day), see you all on TV Live Forum!

oh god were you the person who replied to every single bloody tweet? I think I blocked the account in the end as I was sick and tired of seeing the spam.

Yeah that was me, my sincere apologies for that, but at the time I did not know any other way of sharing that petition, look at the bright side at least now I am not spamming anymore, and I hopefully will never have to again

Well I for one am very glad for what you did, we’re getting BBC Three back, thanks for your efforts.

It's a great pleasure, but you don't only have to thank me, you also have to thank all of those who have supported the #BringBackBBCThree campaign during all these years. This has been not only our victory, but it's a victory for all of us! It's a victory of common sense and reason!

This tweet has been deleted. What did it say exactly?

It simply tagged me and showed me this image from their Instagram account which I saved

Surely if anyone has got a claim to being the “bring back BBC Three guy” it’s Jono Read whose petition got 300,000 signatories and has tens of thousands of followers for the cause online?

Sure, but then a few years later another campaign was started to bring the channel back, which succeeded, but at the end of the day, I don't really care who is who, the important thing to me is that the channel will return on TV now, and I am proud to have made my contribution

French TV

Like the BBC, I suspect the linear channel will have to close for a period before France Télévisions realise that there is still some PSB worthiness in relaunching France 4.

As this may well be the final post I post in the French TV thread, I'd like to thank those who have posted in this thread who have shared the same niche interest in UK terms discussing French television presentation, especially those who live in France who have a broader understanding of how the French tv industry works.

I sincerely hope that you all come over to TVLF and continue to discuss rebrands of French channels and if ever Sophie Le Saint will ever do a full week at Franceinfo!

I am already there mate! But the French TV thread on TV Live Forum still hasn't started mate, we need you there so that we can see if Sophie Le Saint will ever do a full week on France Info! Also to see who will end up buying the M6 Group!

French TV

Given that this wonderful forum will close very soon, I am taking this opportunity to ask the question that I didn't dare to ask it before, do you think that France 4 may be saved from closure? Given that France 4's closure was inspired by the closure of BBC Three a few years before, now that BBC Three is coming back as an actual TV channel, could this help to avoid the closure of France 4? When French media reported the news, some parallels to France 4 were made https://www.telerama.fr/ecrans/apres-le-web-la-bbc3-repasse-a-la-tele-6834377.php
