BBC to review operating locations

Quote:
(the North is far from under-represented on BBC channels!)

Erm, WHAT? I don't believe in them moving production away from London purely to make some politically correct statement, but to argue that anywhere outside of the M25 is not "under represented" is poppycock. However, it doesn't necessarily require a full-scale move to rectify it.

New teen programming block

C4Fan posted:
If they have presenters on like T4 do- I think the obvious choice would actually be Angellica Bell because she was at CBBC for years and lots of teenagers of today grew up with her on kids TV

Angellica and Andrew Hayden-Smith would be a fab presenting combo. Just none of that Jake kid or the new screechy CBBC anchors. How about resurrecting Philippa Forrester and Toby Anstis for the occasion Smile

Mike Reid has died

That's a great shame to hear of his death. He was great in EastEnders and always brought a huge degree of realism and grittiness to the cast's performances. A shame he will never again pop up for a guest appearance.

The Big Brother Series' Poll

I really enjoyed BB2, largely because they'd tested the forumla with the pilot series and so it was getting into its stride by 2001.

As for the most recent series, BB5 has to be the best. It marked a reinvention of the format with Big Brother turning evil. In addition, the mix of housemates and heightened drama between the housemates as well as the introduction of surprise elements such as "the bedsit" really made it edge of the seat stuff. Nowadays they just rehash all those elements introduced in BB5 - secret house, fake eviction etc.

Neighbours

Nah, they've been talking about moving for well over a year now. The current studio is leased by FremantleMedia (formerly Grundy's) from Global Television. The complex used to be owned by TEN themselves as their main Melbourne production base, but that was back in the early days.

The problem with Studio B that Neighbours currently uses is that it is tiny - I've seen for myself how small it is and that it can only hold four interior staged sets at a time (even then they're tightly packed), and thus there's a huge amount of "taking up and putting down" during the week in order to film in as many sets as they need for a block of episodes. Obviously this is time consuming, and not good for the longevity of the sets themselves when they are needed as frequently as Neighbours sets are.

I seem to recall a suggestion that the land the studios are built on (ironically quite vast) would be valuable to developers, especially given the amount of domestic dwellings in the surrounding area.

The biggest problem of course is that moving Neighbours would almost certainly mean having to rebuild the Lassiter's Complex which is housed in the grounds of the current site. It would be interesting to see if they would increase the size and practicality of the complex's buildings to an extent that they could then film inside the shells, as opposed to building seperate interior stages for them.

Here is a mocked video I made of the new closing theme with a new closing sequence taking elements seen in the opening sequence:

BBC squashing all credits still more

Is that for good? We got them every day on BBC Wales for about a week or two but I've not seen them since. The last one I saw was Saturday's Casualty.

BBC squashing all credits still more

I've not seen the ECP used on any BBC One Wales programmes today - even EastEnders and Neighbours x2 were promo free.

Bernard Manning

Being victim to some cases of over-PC practices at times, perhaps. But he was a crude and offensive cock at times too.

Do you have a video of that new sequence, Asa? I also missed Casualty last Saturday... I assume they have just moved the scroll to the centre like Holby?

BBC squashing all credits still more

According to a source I've been in touch with at the BBC, acquisitioned programmes will not have to conform to the new ECP guidelines and thus Neighbours will not get a reformatted end credits sequence until new look titles and a revamped theme tune begin airing over here in a few months. However, the BBC have asked on this occasion that FremantleMedia accomodate the BBC's new ECP requirements in their new look if possible and they are planning to do this. The new look will launch in the UK on episode 5261 in October.
