EastEnders Crisis

Could one trace the general decline in the audience's intelligence back over time to a fixed point/event? When did soap operas overtake proper drama and documentaries? I presume its been a general trend towards decline over time?

In the same way that news coverage on all channels has deteriorated, and increasingly people read tabloid newspapers rather than broadsheet.

Glasses!

I think glasses (of the right sort - not Fiona's pick n mix) can make a person look intelligent, authoratitive and commanding!

50 years of BBC television news

No mention of Peter Sissons either, I think that paragraph is just an attempt to make the modern presenters - Raworth etc look comparable.

I do hope they do commemerate it! It is a worthy event, especially after the 40 years of BBC Two.

New BBC DG

What's this bloke all about then? What is he likely to change? What direction is he likely to steer the BBC in?

Do main news bulletins still have to be live?

I've noticed this Marcus - sometimes its blatantly clear - one hour News 24 will have an abundance of Lives and correspondants in studio's etc. Then the next hour it will have next to nothing - and World will get most of the resources, then during the 1, 6 & 10 it would be like News coverage from the 1920's!

News 24 and World tend to get priority when a new set of presenters are on so they can replay the lives. Is this pattern roughly right?

When one thinks about all of this allocation of resources across the three channels it does seem rather complicated!!

Only Fools And Horses censored?

I agree - the BBC could be doing so much more with the time - like actually making some decent modern comedy of the same calibre of OFAH.

Panorama, 16th May

Dear old Kirsty would be knackered - had it been real, Nik Gowing would be flown in pretty quickly i assume!

And if we have to rely on that awful Meena Shama (!?!?! - is she a real reporter) - then no wonder why the public would panic.

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

Yes, it is ridiculous, you could even tell that Terry was getting more brassed off it year on year.

Only countries that sing should be able to vote, and to me it doesnt seem fair that Andorra gets the same voting weight as Germany or France.

BTW, what happened to Italy - do they usually enter?

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

Yes IT IS ridiculous - the same with Ukraine and Russia. Spain and Andorra, and all across the Balkans!

Something needs to be done - its worse than a US General Election!
