Have you been in a TV audience?

I saw the Weakest Link at TVC with Anne Robinson. Scary how she switched on and off the act of putting the contestants down but she was lovely to us watching.

I was surprised how small the studio really was in relation to the set and how the music was playing really really quietly in the background during the rounds.

Change of TV last 20 years

I'm a fan of streaming, and its come into its own during Covid. As someone who watches a lot of old TV I'm enjoying Britbox. For example I'm halfway through Drop the Dead Donkey and remembering all the news stories from 1990 onwards. Binge watching I think its called.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

Sense would say Eamonn Holmes as replacement. But Tom Bradby would/could work.

As for viewing figures. They'll take a knock but comparing radio listening v TV viewing figures is chalk and cheese. After all, radio will always be higher given the commute in cars will make it higher (even if your commute is only 15 mins - that will flash up as a listener to Radio 2 in my case)

TVF Confessions

Shock horror time.

TSW deserved the chop here in the South West. Not least for the dreadful seasonal idents which started the whole flipping idea.

In fact, I'd say we'd have been better served by HTV post 1992 compared to Westcountry.

And can someone please please tell Andi Peters to grow the hell up. He's not on Live and Kicking anymore. You're on a breakfast show flogging a competition. Does my head in every morning.

20 years since the Real IRA bombing of BBC TV Centre

The only codeword I'd read that was used sounds like the name of a lovely elderly woman.

As a BT telephone operator in 90s we knew the Codewords so we could record the calls or have supervisors listen in.

The main one was "mathematical". And no, I ain't saying anymore.

BBC Three channel to return in January 2022

Personally I know I'm a bit old at 47 for BBC Three now , but 60 seconds was ideal when I'd finished work, and didn't fancy staying up for the 10 o'clock news. Quick, informative and with the authority of BBC news.

Bring that back and I'll be happy!

Gus Honeybun and Auntie Stella

Lets be fair here. Ian Stirling was a legend and in line with the times a bit of a p**head. My old man worked at the transmission centre for GPO and after introducing the late film on a Friday/Saturday Ian would wink and disappear normally to Mr Harrys club on Plymouth Hoe.

He'd appear back for closedown - half cut with any ahem "trade" waiting for him to close Westward/TSW down for the night.

My Dad and colleagues would always get a thanks guys from Ian as they would help cover any issues. But it was worth the malt at Christmas from IVCs.

Many years later I had the pleasure of a South West Presenter falling down the stairs of the gay club in Plymouth drunk and cutting his hand on glass. No big deal- till they appeared on "S" on Monday and when asked what happened to his hand -"oh I did it playing rugby on Saturday". Cue much mirth on the Plymouth gay scene!

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is in hospital

Talking with my flatmate- as well as idents which are deemed as not correct for a death- we got onto TV programmes which could be rested if needed?

Would we get comedies or soap for example- if the storyline is deemed offensive (death/murder etc).

Equally what could return as a gentle settler?

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

So due to one selfish audience member, who would have been clearly told (numerous times I expect) not to have your TV on during the broadcast, just could not follow a clear simple instruction and causes all the highlighted sound issues.

Seriously! All this just because 1 person/family could not follow a simple instruction. I want my TV on so I will do what I want, even though I've been clearly told not to put it on. It's all about ME,ME,ME with some people.
It's like those who walk around with their nose sticking out of their mask....

Tad over the top. Someone made a mistake. Get over it.

Kenny Everett BBC

Not certain on the BBC release, but i know that in the Unforgettable Kenny Everett, it was hinted he got tired of TV sketches and went back to his first love Radio with Capital Gold and his various syndicated shows.

His last big show for the BBC was the quiz Brainstorm around 1988 which a 14 year old me loved at the time but probably hasn't lasted well in the mists of time. There's some on YouTube so ill watch today.

Still think the best BBC characters were Reg Prescott the hapless DIY guy and Verity Treacle (cough Thora Hird). But again that's looking through a youngsters eyes.

He was a unique special talent taken far far too soon and like all geniuses privately pretty shy and nervous.
