We had that in The Five Thirty Show, which had great ratings, better than what the Hour had at 5pm. But in true STV style, they can't just let things be. They have to go changing and when they change it never works.
Lunchtime Scotland Today used to be good back in the day, when Angus & Kirsty/Louise presented it. Then they started having everyone present is. Angus was like Stephen Jardine and Rachel McTavish good at soft/warm news and lifestyle.
Also look at the STV Sports Centre. It was well received and ratings where really good, but that I bet was pulled as they could not afford to have that, The Hour and Scotland Tonight. Their wee lost Gerry McCulloch, he would have been 10 times better than Tam Cowan!
People like that leave and your stuck with the likes of Michelle McManus and Tam Cowan.
I remember when STV reared presenters. Esp ones with the soft/warm lifestyle quaility. Nick Dixon, Aileen Taylor, Kaye Adams, Isla Traquair, Sarah Mack!
Now they have no one! The goods ones are alaway working for BBC or ITV!
Get a grip STV!
I say bring back the Five Thirty Show with Gerry McCulloch & Rachel McTavish and start to warm others into the roles or presenters, like Kelly Ann Bishop, Vicky Lee and even Euan Wemyss from Aberdeen.

What a very sad ending to a very promising concept. Axed after four weeks of a new format, without a proper last show. STV needs something like this, they need something unique, something local - a Scottish One Show. But this isn't it.

It's normally Sophie Raworth of Fiona Bruce when George is away.
Or Mishal Husain. Occasional presenters Sian Williams, Emily Maitlis and Huw Edwards may also pop up and present the Six for us next week.
Or it may be Huw off and George is covering the six and ten.
I say let Jane Hill or Julia Somerville do the full week on it!
BBC News: Presenters & Rotas
And Naga Munchetty is doing GMT all next week. George must be away for an assignment or a wee break. Lucky him. Wonder who you'll get on the Six, if so, given that Kate Silverton is also off and Sue Lawley is retired?
Any bets?

Nah Denzie left 2 seasons ago and Luciuos left at the end of last season!
Waterloo Road on the move
Is Denise Welch still in it? I can't imagine her acting in anything, not since she became that party-animal Loose Lady that she is.
And that young actor, Lucious, or something like that. What do we all think of him? Ooer!

Chances are this is what would happen:
- Rachel Schofield would be let go.
- Maxine Mawhinney would be let go.
- Tim Willcox will prob end up on BBC World.
Are they not freelancers?
I never ever thought Tim was freelance but possibly, I still think he will end up on World full time.
- Clive Myrie would be returned to a correspondents role.
- Ben Brown would be returned to a correspondents role.
- Anita McVeigh would either stay on weekends or return to a correspondent or let go.
Replacing who? Correspondents are also facing redundancies.
Yes they are facing cuts too, but I imagine it would cost the Beeb far less to make other Correspondents redundent that any of these. Plus the experience they have and if needs be they can be used as presenters too.
- Emily Maitlis would only be used as cover.
Excluding Monday afternoons, is this not the current situation?
Never know with Emily.
- Your core presenters, Simon, Carrie, Jane, Matthew, Joanna, & Louise will be used single headed presentations on Mornings and Evening with a double header in the Afternoons with whoever is doing the weekend news on BBC1 working at the weekend on the News Channel too.
Did you mean to exclude Jon Sopel, or was it an accidental omission?
Yes and No - I think Jon will be attached to the Political Unit and will work more for them. Its been said a number of times on here in the past and I think it might happen now.
- Sophie Long would either get Maxines role on the weekend or go back to Regional News.
Again, I can't imagine there will be a huge surplus of regional news positions any time soon.
If shes liked they will find her a job. Again too it might be cheaper to make another redundent then her.
- Chris Eakin will prob end up on BBC World.
Who would cover late evenings? I can't see a single presenter covering 18:30 to 00:30 each weeknight.
No but I think he will move to World and like I said the Core Presenters would cover the Weekdays only a double header in the afternoons. Chances are Joanna would prob end up on Late Lates.
- With Freelancers like Julia Summerville, Fiona Armstrong, Chris Rogers on weekends and filling in during the week as and when required.
Chris seems to be used when the likes of Tim Willcox can't provide cover, so I can't imagine they'll keep Chris around over other freelancers, and Julia and Fiona are already used a fairly limited amount.
Again wasn't sure Tim was Freelance. And yeah Julia and Fiona I dont see getting anymore on Air time.
- I also think that when Breakfast goes to Salford, Sian Williams will fill in on the News Channel from time to time, prob for the 5'oClock hour when Huw is off.
How on earth does that save money? A very bad time to leave Breakfast, I suspect.
They have already said she will be staying with the Beeb, they will not risk losing her. Waste of money not, they will need to be seen getting value for money. She will get a role at BBC Radio 4 with sub duty on 1, 6, 10 and the NC.
You've also not accounted for Martine Croxall, Gavin Esler (I wouldn't be surprised if he were moved off Newsnight sooner or later, based on recent press articles about ratings and how well Mishal Husain did) or Adam Parsons.
Martine will prob end up dissapearing although might end up at World. Gavin your correct bad press, could actually end up being one of the big name losses. Mishal I think will stay on World.

The point would be to reduce headcount hence reduce salary bill, the above would just let the exsiting presenters work less for same money, and I doubt any of them would take pay cuts.

It says that news jobs are being cut with the majority being in aberdeen.
So far highest profile departure has been Louise White in Glasgow.
Every chance it will be a couple of reporters and the operational stuff will be moved to Glasgow. Edinburgh and Glasgow shows are all edited and controlled from Glasgow, looks like Aberdeen will be too.
Possibly a News Editor will go too! Donald or Howard with one remaining for whole of Scotland.

In your opinion, so not based on facts!
These are not the first cuts! I worked at the BBC around that time and every year there were cuts and job losses - 2004, 2005, 2006 and they've probably been happening every year since. One of the big problems is that those who take redundancy are the longest serving and therefore most experienced. The resulting decline in quality in some parts of news is very obvious to all
To say that there are people in news and sport that do nothing isn't really true either. In my experience most of them are very busy indeed, and I speak as someone who worked in a BBC newsroom for 5 years with ever diminishing staff numbers and ever increasing demands.... there was very little dead wood.
Of course you will get quiet and busy periods so you might have crew or producers doing nothing at times, but to have no slack in the quiet times means you can't react to the busy times.
It is my opinion and respect where your coming from.
But in reality the BBC Newsroom prob gets 3 times the budget that STV has but STV does ten times more.
They produce 3 evening news programmes, they have excellent online news service and are moving into a 4th daily news programme.
The BBC have one evening news programme and newsnight. The BBC website isn't all that great! And to make matters worse Reporting Scotland is total rubbish, it ranks as one of the BBC's lowest % regional news programmes.
If they do get rid of the experience then so what! Fresher people will gladly take there job, that's what happened to STV and now it reflects its target audience, BBC Scotland does not!
Trouble with BBC scotland:
Too many people at the Beeb News & Sport do F All IMO! Its about time the cut's happened! Its just like 2005 when STV made the cuts, 6 years too late IMO at the Beeb!

Look at STV and what they can do with the budgets and staff they have, why can't the beeb do they same.
Only difference is the beeb will have BBC Radio Scotland output.

I can honestly see big names going! Jackie B or Sally M will go with the other having to do 5 nights for the same salary they are getting just now!
Or one will stay on Reporting Scotland five nights and the other will move to Newsnight Scotland 4 nights aweek.
Reporting Scotland Breakfast Presenter will stay on and do the Lunchtime news, with Jackie or Sally doing the late news.
Lots of thing to consider, I actually think that's why Atholl Duncan left the Beeb last year, as he knew this day was coming.
