Networked ITV - 1990s and before...

RJG posted:
And, remember, Caldbeck has two muxes currently radiating the same ITV service. They are there because, presumably, it is felt that, at some point, some Scottish programming will be broadcast on one of them.

The cynic in me thinks the two muxes are more likely to have been kept to ensure ITV can still sell separate advertising to the Scottish bit (unlike C4 & C5 who just bombard Cumbria with Scottish adverts)

The Weather Thread

One of the telly weather forecasters does the Shipping Forecast these days, as I understand it.

Liam Dutton has mentioned on twitter a few times that the overnight forecaster does the 5:30am shipping forecast as virtually the last thing on shift. All the others are done by the Radio 4 continuity announcers.

Networked ITV - 1990s and before...

During the Carlisle floods in 2005 (when power was lost to the whole city, including Border's HQ, for nearly 24 hours because the city's substation flooded) we got to see what must have been ITV's then feed to the regions. Not 100% how they managed to get it to Caldbeck with Border out of operation, but, for example, there were no adverts as Border couldn't insert them so the screen went to black each break with a countdown timer back into the programme towards the end. From memory this feed had the ITV contitunity on it (obviously that was being done from Leeds or South Bank by then) and ITV promos. During the regional news bulletins that night they threw us Tyne Tees output (in a sign of things to come...).

Ian Payne done really well on the late news - Tyne Tees Border seems to be finding its feet at last. And as ever the regional news offering a different perspective and knowledge of the local community the national teams can't match.

Pan-Regional with Ian at the scene of those North East shootings, I am presuming we will have a cut out into opts at the mid-point of the programme.

EDIT: Philippa in the studio.

Completely joint programme tonight - no opts - though the story has now moved within spitting distance of the old Border / Tyne Tees boundary.

BBC axe Services to make way for new shows

The content for BBC Parliament is being produced anyway - at minimal cost to the BBC given the sharing arrangement others have already mentioned. It then gets broadcast on the BBC multiplex aiui.

Surely that's no more expensive that leaving that slot on the multiplex empty if the content is being generated anyway? And finding something else to fill that slot is going to be more expensive that the current arrangment by definition.

then a brief second or two of BBC London News before Midlands Today crashes in on air.

North West Tonight was clean off the ident - so guessing that bit was an issue in Birmingham.

So a proper close to the six and some proper pres into the regional news. Wonder how many regions are frantically trying to find (or find somebody to record) a "now on BBC One in [region], [programme name]" announcement.

None of them - generic national ident ("the news where you are") here - and was that some Sue Barker in the background?

It looks as though the Six has already been shifted to BBC Two!

Or delayed. I presume it's Coast currently going out on 2 though which could be a 10 min filler.

Freeview EPG here shows the Six on BBC2, with NWT on BBC1 at 6:30 (with the tennis on BBC2 at that point). Don't actually believe that's what'll happen, but...

Really hope he gets to pick up the commentary today. They had him on BBC Breakfast this morning.

He has - and the graphics people seem to have found a way of getting the large numbers on screen without them crashing into the sides of boxes so much - though what happens if we get to 100-100 is anyone's guess...

Looked like another pan-regional tonight with Ian and Kate outside the church in Egremont and Helen Ford in Gateshead. Towards the end Helen tried to hand back to Egremont - we got pictures but not from the camera Ian and Kate were looking at, and they obviously didn't know they were on air. Cue back to Gateshead and Helen Ford ad-libbing for around five minutes - she did well.

BBC News Channel: Presentation

News Channel appear to be showing this evening's Look North.

They are - they said they were running it just past 9:30, and hence the 'recorded earlier' strap - guess it's a good half hour pre-recorded block while the live crews prep for the ten.
