AIUI the 1976 snowflake at 0:18 in this montage is a re-creation that found its way into the mix...
The 1974 - 2017 montage (retweeted by TVF) shows the original symbol.
although there is what was presumably a specially put together Ford Escort advert in one break, which repeats a sequence over and over again!
My memory of the Groundhog Day airing here in HTV land tallies exactly with this. I first checked out this topic before the above post was made, and the 'repeating' Ford Escort campaign during the film was something I immediately thought of. I knew it was a car ad, but wasn't sure which brand - thanks for confirming. ISTR it dominated the break.
The apparent Castlemaine campaign planned for the film is not something I recall seeing here. Though that doesn't necessarily mean it didn't exist.
If I had the breakfiller, I'd have added it to the compilation for upload by Rob... Alas.
From memory, I probably didn't keep an example of it (I know exactly what you refer to - I recall looking up that Craig Armstrong track at the time). But, though unlikely, still a slim chance it may still exist here if an unedited recording of the preview is lying around on another disk. And of course there may be others who do have a recording... So, never say never.
I'm specifically referring to the trial period from mid 2006 to late 2007. I've searched YouTube for them but never tracked them down.
What I'd love to see again and have restored to a readily archive (in proper aspect ratio, of course) would be...
* long and short BBC HD ident (with the first version of the music)
* breakfiller (not sure if that's the correct word but before it became an official channel, nearly all gaps between programmes consisted of a montage from BBC HD shows with Craig Armstrong's "Ball" as the music) (multiple version exist of this with 30 second versions and two minute versions)
* coming up slides
Thanks for raising this; I hadn't known the Pres from the 2006 - 2007 period was so scarce.
Examples of the 3 lengths of ident (though sadly not in HD) should be online soon...
To me, it sounded 'wrong' as soon as the first note came in - but then, I have seen a fair few closedowns. If you weren't familiar with the usual speed and pitch, you'd think nothing of it.
That's those jolly decent folks at BBC NI following the order of colours in the rainbow flag, something that Network botched.
I was thinking the very same...
Indeed, in every respect, the NI version just looks a whole lot nicer.
correct order and date montage. Strangely in 1980 BBC has a computer ident and then switched back.
As you're sometimes a stickler for accuracy of information - that's wrong on both counts.
It's been confirmed the model marked as '1974' in that video was not used that year - instead, a slight variation on 1975, with 'Christmas on BBC 1' displayed underneath.
Not quite sure how you got the idea that 1980 symbol was computerised... The video shows a traditional promo animation, followed by two versions of the symbol with the revolving figurines.
Compared to some earlier years, Pres sites have had an easier time with 1980 material - TVL actually features one of the symbols on a page you've edited yourself - which might explain why your comments have so baffled me!
Interesting choice of v/o at the end of the promo - sounds a lot like Hattie Hayridge...
You're not alone! The range of the look that year - the symbol versions and the stings - remains right up there. Visually simple but quite bold too, which I liked; more of a nod to classic symbols. Soundtrack was great as well.
BRITISH WITH DRAWAL
A BBC News strap earlier this year , around the time of the D-Day anniversary, had World War II typed in shorthand as ' WW11 '
Which of course would be no problem with Gill Sans's default numeral "1".
The current astons don't use Gill... Are you trapped in a previous era?

Looked until recently this year that idents in general weren't being used in the Learning Zone at all... So it's good to see the likes of this and the long version idents have resumed.
Indeed; I rewound to watch the montage a second time. Chills of nostalgia seeing and hearing those idents... Great sequence.
Have they moved playout into the TARDIS and are broadcasting from yesterday?
