Morning Live

The production team have put the content and presenters above the set design (unlike many other programmes). The second outing today hasn't lost any of its character or fun 'team' feeling. Its a very good show and it does no harm to look as though they have been down to the local car boot to furnish it.

That lot will take some shifting before 7pm tonight. I wonder what state it will be in after a few weeks of setting and striking Very Happy
I can see some creativity sharing the budget between this and the One show. Not sure about that rug though. Car boot sale job Very Happy

BBC Regional Redundancies

Asa posted:
Wonder if rob smith is staying at SET?

Can we refrain from speculating about how may be taking voluntary (or forced) redundancy. Some of those reading these forums work inside the BBC, and are potentially facing losing their jobs. I can't imagine they'd appreciate people speculating over whether they will or should go.

Agreed, there is enough doom and gloom around in ITV, Sky & the BBC at the moment.

Having watched Harry Gration's penultimate programme (with an appearance from Parky) its clear he doesn't want to go.

Allegra Stratton - New PM Press Secretary

I seem to remember Private Eye magazine said she wasn't the most popular person wherever she worked as a journalist. Screaming hissy fits were abound. Sound like fun at number 9 Very Happy

Suitability of BBC regional studios

Hull has had its studio since April 2009 the 2004-2009 set was better. Norwich well they put a sofa in. Cambridge hasn’t been changed.

Studio or set? BBC Hull opened its television news studio and gallery in 2005, the set was installed in 2009 - what noggin is referring to is the fact that the newer builds tend not to have purpose built studios but repurposed meeting rooms and office space, with soundproofed walls.

Leeds, Hull, Birmingham, TW, Norwich, Salford and Cambridge are simply that, offices that are left bare, basic lighting grids installed and a tiny size (Birmingham started life as a conference room, as the beeb originally planned an LDN style Midlands Today programme)

Hull's 'studio' is a triangular shaped space shoved into the corner of the Queens Gardens building. The building was designed as retail space but the Beeb took three floors.

Luck ULL was shoehorned in above the radio studios. Lots of space (& money) was wasted by the open centre. Helen Thomas wanted some decorative lumps stuck on the support columns which always reminded me of Tic Tac sweets. Thankfully this area has been decluttered of this rubbish and can now be used for Look Hull reports.

Steph's Packed Lunch

Progress of sorts: so far this week, the show hasn’t registered a zero in any 15-minute segment. However it hasn’t climbed above 0.1 in any segment either.

I spoke too soon - first half hour yesterday was a zero.

Which means I contributed as the viewer in the second half, at least for 15 mins Laughing

Steph's Packed Lunch

I watched a bit for the first time yesterday. Thought I would give it a while to settle down.
It seems to be a case of the show being good fun to make but dreadful 'entertainment' to watch. It doesn't work as there isn't any substance to it.
Nice try but time to put it out of its expensive misery.
Ittr and Meridian AM gave kudos

BBC Cymru Wales New HQ

Its another Pebble Mill scenario. The actual studios are fine, purpose built and in nice surroundings. A refit would have sufficed but no there has to be another silly impractical office space with a few studios shoved in. A waste of money.

Once again its a question of the 'star' being bigger than the company. Andrew Neil could have had a new show with the BBC but it didn't have the freedom for what he wanted to do which would be 'Spectator' based.
As to if it will work, who knows, but TV news can be an expensive ideological ego trip for its owners. I hope they have deep pockets.
