ITV abandons the South Bank

I’m quite puzzled why some here continue to be annoyed that TV Centre has 2 studios fully booked, rather than them being mostly empty with just an odd show being made every now and then.

I'm not annoyed that they are booked just that they shut the rest on a lie. If the place was still standing it would be heaving and bringing in a tidy sum for the BBC (which we all own) for us to watch more programming.

TVC was never just a few shows booked 'now and then'

The stupid thing is that these at TVC studios were designed, and refitted to be versatile, for fast turnaround of sets and production, not permanent standing ones. Meanwhile at Elstree the studios would be matched perfectly for these kinds of standing production.

The only people who keep sounding off that there is a lack of studio space in London are members on here - until channels / production houses / producers say the same then there is no issue?

You are joking? Pretty much every Production Manager / Unit Manager / Production Exec scheduling studio shows shot in London will tell you what a pain it is.

Converted film studios, theatres, rehearsal spaces? They aren't TV studios...

Do you have the list of productions that have not gone ahead because of a lack of studio space?

That will be me then. Rolling Eyes There is a lack of affordable, flexible studio space.
Poland is very handy for this, though it saved having to build a set.

The irritating thing is that there is fundamentally nothing wrong with the place. As with the BBC Television Centre, Its all down to greed. There is a huge shortage of production studio facilities in London. The BBC's studio production is making decent income. Its daft that its cheaper for ITV to have this place stood empty that making programmes.
