Gavin Esler
I think that it is an interesting piece. All BBC viewers will know Gavin Esler, thus making it a story which virtually all viewers will therefore be able to relate to, in some way. It is a quite remarkable point that the family agreed to do this, and have their very much private story told so publically - it should be much appreciated by all.

Eurovision is a complete and utter farce nowadays at any rate.

"I don't ever want to have to watch that interview again", much to the amusement of Emily. The language barrier was certainly very much in evidence during the interview!Eurovision is a complete and utter farce nowadays at any rate.

The Blair Succession
I would imagine Huw will be at Westminster later on. James Landale and Nick Robinson are also in Sedgefield.

That's a CSO. The summary pod, as you look at the set, is on the left hand side. It has the silver rail at half height, transparent red base, frosted glass, and vertical red markings on either side. It looks out over a lot of the reporter's desks, and gives a sideways view of the newsroom that you can see from the main presenter 2 shot.

I was just saying that it would be good to make it a more regular feature, and bring it back - maybe if not now, definately throughout the day for the general election. Last time, they also opted out of Breakfast, and gave Tim his own slot from 07.30 - 09.00 every morning to start the day with election news, which worked well for those of us wanting to watch news and not fluff!
A bit of a mystery, Jane Hill put in just half an hour on air today, from 11 - 11.30. And Louise has done the '1' and stayed on air since then, seemingly carrying on with her own shift as well.

No, the camera in the summary pod is stil needed, as the pod is still used a lot during the day - it's just that people don't tend to notice. The access to the set is from that side, and for a start there isn't the space to move anything - then there is the practicality (it is a working newsroom), the physical space, and the sound/audio issue (the set is soundproofed as best as possible from the general atmos of the newsroom).I was just saying that it would be good to make it a more regular feature, and bring it back - maybe if not now, definately throughout the day for the general election. I'm very much hoping that before too long, being the Elections results day, that News 24 will do a live in the 'engine room', the newsroom behind the desk, as they used to do quite often from time to time...it was a nice informative feature, obviously slightly awkward, having to de-rig and use the camera from the left hand pod, but is a different insight into the news operation.

Interesting to note the backup astons and lack of 'Live' bug, even though the ticker and DOG are still up.
The '1' even threw to Ben Brown, who did a seemless couple of minutes as part of the '1' - News 24 viewers wouldnt have known any different. BBC are handling this well.

Very well handled. The '1' is coming from N8 again with Sophie, but News 24 are rolling on location, with good coverage of Alan Ball's funeral.Interesting to note the backup astons and lack of 'Live' bug, even though the ticker and DOG are still up.
