WHAT THE ****!?

London Tonight are surely having a joke?

Leading with the story that the Queen says Paris thinks the people supporting their bid are better than London's. Correct...everyone knows that.

Not content with that, they devote another 10 minutes to OLD news of just what the Olympics will do for London.

Surely this programme is now taking the ****!? Oh, and they're yet again talking to Lord Coe about how wonderful the bid will be.

I know my approach and language may seem a little harsh here, but I am just astounded how this can be considered a credible programme. It's like they're reading the newspaper on TV. Awful, just awful.

Christ ITN!

LOL - I am suprised you even watched the programme. I caught the end as I normally do after the SIX finishes, and the huge Olympic flag that practically filled the studio with Alastair signing it was quite enough. Oh no..........not quite. They closed the show with that lovely shot of the studio from the atrium with..............wait for it - LONDON TONIGHT - BACKING THE BID slapped on part of the atrium (although I am sure it was com generated).

The show is just dire. Such a shame it really is! London Tonight used to be one of my fave shows on tv back in the early nighties. It's turned into a crock of sh@t!!!!

Andrea Catherwood tipped to replace Trevor McDonald

As a man in the know who has recently discussed this with many of the head honchos at ITN they seem to favour a new face from another channel. The hot favourite at the moment is Sky's Jeremy Thompson who spent many years at ITN as Chief sports correspondent and as a highly regarded news reporter. He is a friend of David Mannion.
There is no way Andrea Catherwood would go onto News at 10.30 she has effectively been sidelined with the arrival of Nina Hossain.

Jeremy Thompson??? I cant see that happening. He is on far too much money at Sky, and as their STAR presenter, I would have thought they'd move heaven and earth to keep him if he were approached by ITV.

And as for him being a friend of Mannion - well so is Alastair Stewart, a very good friend, and I can't see him moving back to ITV News either .

Erm, so what is Live with Alastair Stewart on the ITV News Channel?

It aint National News is it! I know exactly what Alastair does on the News Channel, but he aint back on National News and he wont be either. Agreed, he is probably the network's choice as anchor for the forthcoming Election, but that's about it I reckon.

Andrea Catherwood tipped to replace Trevor McDonald

Sorry foilks, but Andrea is a mid ranage newscaster, and certainly not good enough to replace Trevor. She has an awful annoying PERMANENT SMILE, even when she is delivering horrific news on the Tsumani for example. She wasn't any good on 5 news and she isn't getting any better on ITV news. Her reporting skills however are among the best on ITV News.

Give the job to someone who deserves it - KATIE DERHAM.

Don't know whether it's worth reading too much into the pecking order at the BBC.

One would have thought Sophie would have stayed on to do it after the SIX. I mean it's what George normally does, and if we are to believe the rumours about her moving to the TEN, she could probably do with a test drive! hehe Or they could have asked Sissons or Buerk.

I wouldn't have thought Jordan would have been an obvious choice.

To be honest, I don't think the BBC do have a 'pecking order'. Granted, they have a pool of presenters for each bulletin or channel to make it consistent, but they are by no means rigidly adhered to. I don't have any specific knowledge of why Darren Jordon was on the Ten O'clock News tonight, but I'd guess that it was a last minute decision, and he was available at the time. If they're left without a presenter at the last minute, I imagine the last thing they consider is the pecking order.

I think I'd be inclined to disagree with you. I mean, they'd hardly put Maxine Mahwhinney on the TEN would they?

Several years ago, you'd have been saying the same thing about Bill Turnbull presenting the Six O'clock News. After all, he was a News 24 presenter too before Breakfast.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr would I have?????

Tonight's SIX and ITV Evening News were both outstanding. Very well produced indeed.
