The coverage he has received seems incredibly disproportionate -- I understand about putting pressure on and keeping it in the minds of people, but the news isn't a lobby group. If they must do it it shouldn't be through bulletins, maybe on the BBC website in a separate unrelated section.
BBC News - General
I notice Alan Johnston has got the broadcast journalist of the year award, does any kidnapped reporter instantly lay claim to anything going now? I have doubts he would have been awarded it otherwise regardless of being short-listed beforehand. The coverage he has received seems incredibly disproportionate -- I understand about putting pressure on and keeping it in the minds of people, but the news isn't a lobby group. BBC One to Trial Evening News Summary
Never thought radio/television news could get more condescending, but I think this beats the lot. Sounded like a snippet from Woman's Own.

Just because it might make you feel proud for them to watch the station in no way makes a case for it to be publicly available. Why not let anyone watch the cream of BBC drama for free instead of selling it internationally for example? This is in addition to the fact we already provide world services anyway. The sharing of BBC World resources with BBC News 24 and vice versa I would imagine would be tightly controlled (otherwise there would be some illegality I assume?) so it could be seen as an analogy of ITV news using a local BBC news studio for an interview etc.
If I paid a licence fee I wouldn't want to effectively subsidise ex-pats.
BBC News 24
Poor argument. People that do not pay the licence fee have no right to watch the channel or any other domestic broadcasts. The internet happens to make enforcing this impossible, which is ridiculous -- there shouldn't be any domestic content readily available overseas (inc. websites).Just because it might make you feel proud for them to watch the station in no way makes a case for it to be publicly available. Harsh, I don't think personal attacks are helpful.

Local Elections
Something about Cameron building a house depending on the percentage taken - foundation for a crap result, roof for 40%+. Doesn't beat Vine's dancing later though.

Also, the pub bit is also not necessary. I guess they'd be at a loss without a London based OB or a Rory Bremner skit (which was also performed word for word last week).

Local Elections
I know it's the same pretty much every time, but what a waste of time the graphical section is. Took Mr. Vine 5 minutes to tell us a new worst ever result would be bad for Labour and a better result isn't as bad with some crap tennis analogy. Ditto "Cameron's house". If someone can't understand the information without the graphics it's probably not worth bothering. Also, the pub bit is also not necessary. I did smile though at one point when, as the earnest voice-over whittered on about media intrusion (from the scene), the camera panned signs of 'media -- go away!'.
US Shootings - Coverage
Not so much irresponsible as unjustified? The only reason it ran was because it was a bit of 'oo have you seen this' + NBC wanted a tagged photo the world over. All this insight and evidence crap is such an appalling excuse for some cheap entertainment.I did smile though at one point when, as the earnest voice-over whittered on about media intrusion (from the scene), the camera panned signs of 'media -- go away!'.

Why are companies allowed graphic logos for providing timings or data (IBM at wimbledon) on the BBC? Similarly the small Barclays prem. logo on subs. Surely these shouldn't be allowed -- regardless of the current rules -- as it's clearly advertising. If anything, a simple text description would be sufficient.
I thought coca-cola were prevented (or almost) from showing a graphic logo at the end of top of the pops once?
