BBC Three channel to return in January 2022

I know the won't do it but I'd kill to see them bring back Torchwood.

Fort Boyard Ultimate Challenge Timer

Does anyone know where to find the timer used in the challenges on Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge?

I presume you mean the on screen graphic and not the physical water clocks? Smile The latter you can probably find something similar in Homebase, the former... well probably a standard clock in some wrapping and animations, I dare say if you're relatively up to speed with After Effects (which I'm not), but probably not too difficult to knock up once you have the wrapping.

Now, will we all get founding member badges? Wink

Nope. Too much hassle. Wink

How about if we say please? Wink

If we can't have a badge, then I notice you're doing the purple marker/tag/whatever it was called for the insiders, surely it wouldn't be any harder to set up for the founders to have, say, a red one?

Your choice of course whether to do the founders thing or not, I won't mention it again.

ITV Programming Thread

JAS84 posted:
Remember during the first year of the 2013 rebrand it was all "your ITV"?
"Coming up next on your ITV, it's This Morning"
I don't think it lasted long 😄
I guess it's them trying to add a more personal connection to the viewer, same with this announcer saying "stay with me"

Most announcers would say "stay with us ".

Announcers having bad days would probably say "next on BBC One, its Doctors", while announcing on ITV.
Although that being said, it was discussed previously (was it a Party Political Broadcast?) an ITV announcer did go out on BBC One by accident?

Also - secret forum???

Only the most important users get into the secret forum. We were just all there discussing you.

Secret forum houses the Holy Grail - the long lost, presumed destroyed, paperwork for the TVS archive. Yes, somebody boxed it all up and left it in an underground time capsule with instructions not to open until March 2001 until either TV Forum or a time travelling Delorean came along, whichever came first. Unfortunately the Delorean didn't get here until 2015, so we got the paperwork. Join us, snap your fingers and a classic episode TVS Catchphrase will be on your screen at the next opportunity.

BBC2 Personality 2 concepts

This is something more suitable for the Gallery.

But I don't have any pictures or mockups.

Make it so.

Some of these concepts you could creatively "adjust" the existing ones. Don't have to be perfect or up to the standards of the existing ones, don't even have to be fully animated in HD, you could put them as animated GIFs if that's all you're able to do.

Heck, even Powerpoint would do, better than nothing.

GMB Slight Graphic Tweak

Right, I've come back to this. Found a clock generator online, customised it slightly and replaced the Télématin sourced clock for something a bit cleaner, and for this image hands a bit further apart at 7:15 which is probably what I should have done in the first place:

Very fine line I found between hands that are too thin and hands that are too thick. This might be too thin. If its too thick it looks too 60s, if its too thin its hard to see.

Turn on the Subtitles campaign

Flux posted:
Where it gets strange is when Netflix dub a programme and the subtitles have obviously been done from a different translation to the dubbed dialogue.

It might not always be a different translation, but rather a further adaptation. I don’t know the exact details for Netflix, but traditional broadcast subtitles have quite strict guidelines for things like how long each word should appear on screen, or a limit on line length (I think the BBC is 37 characters) so often a subtitler might need to tweak the exact wording of a translation to fit those guidelines

Also of course Netflix (and Amazon and Disney+) don't use traditional "block" subtitles (ie Ceefax style, or the style we know them for). They use a regular font, Arial style, so a letter i for example doesn't take up an entire character block like it does on "traditional" subtitles (ie the spacing between the letters is more normal/natural looking), so there is probably more scope to fit more text on the subtitle if it has a load of narrow characters. Spacing or Kerning I think the technical name for it?

For Prime you can customise the subtitles appearance in your Amazon account (you can pick a colour and a background if you wanted to, and I believe even pick Comic Sans as a font or a more traditional "blocky" font, which I think they call a typewriter font). Netflix for what its worth doesn't let you pick Comic Sans but you can have typewriter.

GMB Slight Graphic Tweak

It's certainly an interesting take. However, I definitely don't think it's something that could be used on-air - it just doesn't look professional, especially with the analogue clock.

I would respectfully argue analogue clocks were mainstream on breakfast TV in the 1980s and 1990s, largely dropped because of the screen space they can take up. However by sticking them on top of something else that's already there, that solves the screen space issue (and of course one could vary the thickness of the hands, the border, etc). I didn't do that here as I just reused the one from the Télématin logo. Perhaps making things less thick could work better.

Anyway this just shows why I don't mock. Smile Would be surprised if this gets more than two stars once all's said and done. Better to have tried and failed than not to try at all Very Happy

GMB Slight Graphic Tweak

Since everybody else is putting up mocks they made and haven't released, I'm going to put this here.

Last summer I had an idea, which I'd had for a while. So I made it. And then never posted it. Now I've found it again and thought I'd put it here.

I basically took a Good Morning Britain screenshot, painted out the clock, moved the ITV News logo from the ticker under the GMB shape, lightened up the GMB text, and then took the analogue clock from a Télématin logo/slide somewhere and stuck it on top of the GMB bug, resizing it as appropriate.

*

Think I never posted it because I wasn't 100% happy with it. But its a proof of concept if nothing else. The ITV News tag could change with the contents of the ticker so Entertainment or whatever. I suppose if I'd thought about it I could have chopped out the bottom left of the GMB bug so it lines up with the clock.

So I can now say I have contributed to the gallery in both ways.
