Central Past

Did you know you can sing "Thank You For Watching Central" in time to that music...

That's no coincidence, it was originally commissioned in 1988 for when Central introduced the animated endcap, and it continued to appear in local continuity in one form or another until the Cake was dropped in 1997. It was in effect chosen as their new station ident sting.

Almost all of the music they used in local continuity came from library music collections. Some, as you say, better than others. After the excellent original piece (which we now know as 'Advision' from the Bruton collection), Central chose a number of tracks from Music House library during the late 80s. Not sure about the 90s, but they did commision the "Thank You For Watching Central" piece, as well as "Let's Get Together" (... which was soooo irritating!!) and interspersed versions of these in amongst the library tracks.

In fact, almost all of the animations and jingles continued to be used in re-edited/re-hashed/re-jigged versions throughout. It was great to spot an old stop-frame version of the cake mixed in with the CGI paintdrops, and the multi-coloured rising balls (for want of a much better description), and then a new 'CENTRAL' caption overlaid on top (or is that me being sad...!)

(BTW The original full length version of the 1982 "Central Theme" is on the Private Parts.)

Central Past

Thanks Robin, been looking for them for years! I knew we had them, but I wasn't going to sit and listen to every one! (Interesting to find Channel 4 News on there too. I already had that, but from a different CD.)

Don't suppose you know of any others while we're at it?

Central Past

Hi Andrew,

That's a great collection. Have you been in touch with the fella behind www.centraltelevision.co.uk You may know him already, although I only know him as 'Heathbury' over on the Tiswas and ATV forums, but he's a good lad.

I think the aims behind both of your sites are very similar, and perhaps you could swap and share some material?

I've lived in ATV Land all my life, and I was always taken with the original 1985 stuff. I've managed to track down much of the library music used in some of the later packages (from 'Music House'), but that track from 1985 has always been elusive. I do know that it's production music, and if I knew it's title/artist/library I could find it in 2 minutes... but there, I'm stuck. Anyone have any ideas?

Saturday Showdown font

Looks like the 'Saturday' is a pretty standard sans serif font, with a bit of stretching, but the rest of it looks like the free 'Yahoo' font.

TV-am cease broadcasting to MTV UK starting

Good point, a lot of buildings do have that stipulation... although, I'd have thought that would only relate to rented buildings...

Wouldn't it be great if Ian White (www.tv-am.org.uk) could buy it.

A little expensive though, I'd wager...

Doctor Who theme tunes

I;m sure you can Buy them

Indeed, do be aware that they are all currently commercially available. Until recently there was a 'Doctor Who Theme Repository' website from where they could all be downloaded - it was closed down for copyright reasons.

Blue Peter - 'Sorry'

Did anyone manage to get a recording of tonights Blue Peter, admitting that they rigged another premeium rate comp.

Just to clarify, this is the official situation:

Lest the forum be accused of libel.

They didn't deliberately set out to deceive anyone, a technical problem led to a serious error in judgement.

I'd love to know who blew the whistle on this one though...

Tiswas Reunited - ITV1

The only good thing about Tiswas was the Phantom flan flinger and the Banana splits oh and the chaos.

AFAIK The Banana Splits were never actually a part of Tiswas, in my memory they were shown as a stand alone programme. Mostly on the BBC. Remember this wasquite a long show (up to 25 minutes) and Tiswas only tended to show regular 8 minute "Looney Tunes" or, as Pete says, clips of stuff like Animalympics or Snow White.

It may be that in certain areas The Banana Splits could have been shown before the programme (although on the Tiswas site we have surrounding listings for most regions and I haven't seen it in there yet), or they could have been shown in the same time slot after the end (or before the start) of a series.

Either way, it's looking to be a good show, and for those of us of a certain age it's a dream come true! But, as always, each to his own! Wink

Most Haunted

It's comercially available from the website:

www.livingtv.co.uk/mosthaunted
or
www.livingtvshop.com

Apparently a lot of the music is also library music (Spectrasonics.net) which has been specially mixed for use on the show.

Pop Idol / American Idol theme tune

All they mean is that it's commony courtesy on this board not to make multiple posts or to bump messages. I know it happens on other boards, but it doesn't go down too well here.

You'll find that people will see the request wherever it is - we all browse back through the pages to see if there's anything we've overlooked, so don't worry about it getting missed. And of course the reason no-one's replied yet, could well be that whoever may have it may not be on here at present... or nobody may have it at all.

Sometimes it's taken a while to get what I'm looking for, sometimes I haven't had any luck - I guess it just comes down to patience.

Just give it a little time, if it's out there, someone will hopefully be nice enough to let you know.

I don't have what you're looking for, but as a suggestion would anybody have the video games? (X-box? PS?) Perhaps these piece of music may be on menu screens or somewhere else in the game...?

All the best!

The ATV Website

Yup, that's the way it is with the site at the moment, but we're working on ideas for a potential project that may help bring in a little cash for the upkeep of the site...

Have a mooch around the forum, and you'll see.
