Marvellous - in fact TVdragon has posted this:

This was the CIN logo used up until 1984:

There were no cartoon bears until Pudsey arrived in 1985, although for the first year he did indeed have the letters BBC on three buttons, and a distinctly less happy expression than he has now!

Yes, of course - I do remember that logo!

I see now, the 'blocks-less Pudsey with BBC buttons' was in 1985, then 'Pudsey on the blocks' from 1986 onwards.

I've just been into the BBC's CIN website and spotted this:

Look above Terry's head... there's the oval logo I was talking about! However, by the looks of it, that seems to be the 'kids logo' as above.

Don't suppose anyone has an image of Pudsey with his BBC buttons...

I'd like to think that the Beeb might repeat some clips from the early 80s shows to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the TV telethon (the appear began in the 1920s)... but I seem to recall that they don't have or never recorded the early ones. I know it wasn't a full-night programme until the late 80s, but it would be nice to see the early stuff...

Children in Need Regional Opt-Outs

In the Midlands (West) we're getting Shefali Oza and Ashley Blake - hope he signs off each time with his trademark wave!

Nick Owen will be around during the day to sign copies of his book - and it appears that the publishers are pledging £1 per copy to CIN.

Anybody see Molly from WM cartwheeling in the Newsroom on the 7.30am Midlands Today? She's a well built girl! Very Happy It's apparently been planned for a while... you could see her waiting in the wings as it began...

There are rumours that you might catch sight of a naked man walking by on the lunchtime edition... Laughing

It doesn't look that different!

True, just the font by my reckoning (although there seems to be a slightly larger smile on little Pudsey...).

Anyone remember the Children In Need Logo from before 1985? I seem to remember it as a cartoon bear (possibly not known as Pudsey) with the B B & C in white on his 3 black buttons! It was displayed in an oval around the set.

(PS The current C.I.N. logo is sometimes displayed with Multi Coloured blocks!).

(There is also a CIN special on Friday between 7 & 10 on WM too! What's the betting it's Daz Hale in charge ! Remember when local radio used to devote the entire night to CIN Not any more !)

Actually old fella, I have some news for you... straight from the Horse's mouth again Cool

My Mate at BBC Birmingham posted:

Children In Need night on WM will be presented by Danny Kelly, not Daz Hale! 7-10 with 6-7 being the football phone in presented from the open space by Paul Franks in drag!

So there you go... my mate is also directly involved with the TV presentation on the night too... although, I'd best preserve his identitiy... Cool

By the way, it's Shefali and Ashley Blake doing the TV presentation, and by all accounts BBC Birmingham are making a day of it - Nick Owen will be around at a certain point to sign copies of his book... not sure if any proceeds to CIN though...

Itv Wales News

I used to work with him at Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton in the early-90s (before he moved to Red Dragon) and he's a great laugh!

He can squeal like a pig at times... for no apparent reason Laughing (in the office of course!) which, for somebody with quite a deep reading-voice is really very funny... and for my money he's one of one the most cynical journos I've ever met - and that's really not meant as an insult either! In fact for a journalist, it can be a positive compliment... Laughing Helps you keep an objective eye open when things get silly...

BBC 1 Scotland

Very nice indeed old chap!

It's got me thinking, if BBC1 eventually go 'the way of the D.O.G.', I think they would do well just to use the number 1 on screen - and in the manner you're showing in your mock.

Everyone I know, refers to the station as '1' ie "Put 1 on, for the News". I'm sure ITV1 is still referred to by most people as just ITV (or Central round 'ere) or even "what's on 3?". ITV will always be the third channel in people's perceptions - especially while you've still got "Channel 4" and "five".

So I think that the next time BBCtv re-brands, they should 'own the 1', and I'd love to see your 1-in-the-circle as the style...

The Big Moira Thread

Having a roster of presenters shouldn't prove too much of a problem. It's what ITN always did...

I think it would be unfortunate to alter the Breakfast format again. It's working very well at the moment, but then it's been the more or less the same format since 1987 hasn't it. Didn't they try and shift the position of the News segments to a different place in the hour... then realise they'd got it wrong?

IMHO this kind of Breakfast Television should be very repetitive, as with 24 hours News stations (who developed their formats from Breakfast TV of this kind). Half hour segments, almost the same every time:

10 minute news / sport / weather / paper review / feature.

As we know, the idea is that people get up at different times but as long as they have half an hour to spare before they go to work (or whatever) they'll see 'the whole show'. Watching the show from start to finish must be very irritating, and so it's not designed like that. I can't see how they could change it in any effective manner, other than re-arranging the order of the above list - that's essentially all they've ever done before.

As for Moira, she may have decided she wants to move elsewhere in the News line-up. There's no way they'd push her out if they've got any sense - she's one of the best News Presenters they have. And her careful pronunciation of tongue-twisting names is magnificent! Very Happy

Newsround & ??

Aye that's about the size of it. Those of us who did a paper-round, got back in around 5pm - and so there on the Telly was John Craven doing his own Newsround - made perfect sense to us!

Technically it's a spin-off of Blue Peter you know... as was Swap Shop...

Was there a reason for shifting it from 5 to 5.30?
