Goodbye ATV/Central Studios

ITV don't own the building, and well yes it is most likely a copy - but as its been pointed out before sometimes it may be the only copy.

Which seemingly proved to be the case with the Crossroads music - a lot of which doesn't exist in the programmes as it was incidental music. Had they not been removed after closure by a visitor, then they'd be lost for good I imagine as the masters are seemingly missing.

No its still on the shelf along with all those other carts of music as far as I'm aware.

Clearly says Blockbusters on the label though, so its some sort of music from the show. Maybe someone needs to ask one of the workmen nicely and slip them a few quid to get them out.

Well looking at the photos in the Central TV thread, it looks like a copy of it is sitting in ATV Centre waiting to be crushed. Where the original went.. who knows.

ITV in Yorkshire maybe along with some of the other ATV/Central bits?

Goodbye ATV/Central Studios

There was quite a lot of Central, and some ATV stuff inside back in 2005, and quite a bit of it was scooped up by several people. But we didn't get into the Central House side of the building, otherwise the signs most likely would have been taken too.

BBC Worldwide, ITV and C4 to launch online venture..

A far more detailed run down is on the BBC Press Office site.

I wonder if this is part of the reason ITV have been getting tough with You Tube.

Heartbeat

I thought it was just me that seemed to think it looked like a drama made in 1980 that you'd find on ITV3, looking very cheap.

YOUTUBE

The BBC do seem to be more sensible with it. Certainly there are some departments of the BBC who enjoy the You Tube clips, and have used them for research.

I think short clips are good promotion for a channel, and the action is not really making ITV look very good. Fair enough if the clips were going to be on ITV.com, but I can't see it happening.

My whole account deleted because of an Emmerdale clip i uploaded, how rubbish is that!

I thought they just warned people first, seems harsh.. I knew ITV were getting tough, but really they should only be getting tough on people who upload whole programmes, little clips often are just free plugs for the products. Shame, although maybe its to do with Music in the titles, I'm sure Tony Hatch likes his Emmerdale royalties.

There is something on the Granada Ventures site about their new tough policing of illegal 'trading' of anything they own.

TVS is in the skip!

Well there were audio reels, and the machines to play them, but I have no idea what was on them.

TVS is in the skip!

Oh there were film cans and all kinds in the basement at Broad Street. It was like a little TV time capsule.

TVS is in the skip!

Not sure (as said probs regional mainly), but ITV Yorkshire have Southern programmes, TVS, ATV and Central stuff there now. (ATV certainly is national stuff like Crossroads.)

I can't believe anything important would be lost. Although this is ITV who nearly threw all of ATV and Central's photograph collection going back to 1955 in a skip, and the same company that has binned a load of stuff in 2005 from the Tyne Tees archive (not programmes.)

So.. anything is possible. As Bruce Gyngell said a decade ago, television is a "cultural asset" in danger of being "crushed by bean counters" and I think certainly the heritage of ITV isn't - other than the lucrative programmes in the archive - being cared for well.

When Central's Lenton Lane closed, we were allowed to grab stuff from the place 'to save it' as the Carlton bosses were concerned over what was going to happen to some items. And in the Broad Street studios, as I've said before I found a skip full of awards Central had won, which had been ditched.

TVS is in the skip!

Someone was logging TVS programmes at ITV Yorkshire recently apparently. I think its safe.
