ITV Debate

Not presentation related but I don't like Chante Joseph, the unconscious bias she shows towards policing (even going so far as to cut the Met bod off mid sentence) is the very same thing she claims the wider CJS has against Black people.

And rather than rolling her eyes and trying to talk over people who disagree with her shows a lack of skill as a journalist. It's a hell of an assumption to say that crime is the result of 'government caused poverty' - there's little link to poverty and murder, and drugs and the greed, power and control that goes with it. It makes her come across borderline unwell (massive conspiracy theorist).

Nice to see Humphrys asking questions of those making sweeping statements, and the remainder of panelists wasn't as hostile.

CiTV Archive

Wow, I'm surprised no one talks about what I consider the best CiTV show of all time...

Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids.

CiTV obviously have stopped showing it, and there was a 4 year period where they lost the rights to Nick.

Probably because we’re grown adults and while we have an interest in TV presentation we don’t get so interested over the content; particularly children’s content.

I find the obsession with CITV (would love to know where the lowercase ‘I’ found it’s way into the acronym) stuff a tad strange which is kind of ironic; sort of vision the same weird adults that obsess over My Little Pony...

BBC 2020 Rebrand Project

And to cap off this deluge of News pres for now, here are the remaining English regions.

Opinions welcome, have it at me! Smile

You can drop the 'West' from Midlands Today! Spotlight can keep its historic name, then MTD can keep theirs...

I'm not keen on the corporate logo, and it's not because you haven't tried - I just think it's too much of a departure from what's gone before it and loses its BBCness (not to be confused with oneness!). It could now be any old 79p app in the app store as opposed to a globally recognised broadcaster.

I'm not really sure how you could tinker with the logo (and perhaps thats why they didn't themselves? Remember there's a cost to go with all this, signage being very expensive, identity cards, mugs etc - more than just a logo on screen). The blocks look alien with Reith in them, you've sacked off the blocks in favour of a Web2.0 icon. The BBC One logo you've devised looks equally weak.

There are fundamental problems with the design across the BBC right now (I think we're back in 1996 when it comes to logos) and you've still not fixed that.

The other on screen elements I like though, except maybe the regional news titles which seem a little cheap looking.

Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow

That makes sense, but it's not the case that he would have 'entrusted' the material to the client. It's the clients to do with what they like, they have no compulsion to give it back or keep it safe

Exactly, which is why when Central downsized at Gas Street they threw a lot of their random carts and CDs into a skip... It's theirs to bin!

I don't think necessarily the music is 'lost' though, I think easily accessible copies of it might be missing but nearly everything is out there, somewhere...

BBC NEWS CUTS

AlexS posted:
A routinely renewed contract though isn't always a get out of jail free card - indeed after 4 years they're considered an employee unless there is a good reason for them not to be and they're entitled to redundancy after 2 years.

I guess it'll vary from region to region but how many on screen talent do we think each region would have?

I’d say Look North Leeds has 8 people you could primarily call presenters, but at least 3 of them are also reporters and 1 also does the weather and works on Inside Out. In the current set up only 5 are appearing on screen in a normal week.

Might not be typical because Look North Leeds doesn’t provide breakfast bulletins (They are dual region done from Hull)

Of course there will be loads of reporters, sports reporters, weather presenters on top of that

Midlands Today has 2 people who could primarily be considered presenters (or 3 if you include the one day a week the breakfast and lunch bulletins are presented by Joanne Malin). Everything else is done (including breakfast and lunch bulletins 4 days a week and weekends) is done by a mix of reporters, the weather team, and BBC radio Coventry presenters (or during the current situation occasional appearances from politics midlands presenter Elizabeth Glinka).

Nick Owen and Mary Rodes job share with a relief presenter of Jo Malin who is part time also I think? So they’ve already made cuts, but I suspect the older contracts will be first out the door...

HQ stills of BBC idents

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DZYylE9XUAUuiPY?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

If you zoom in it's still reasonable quality, not sure if you could crop and have it printed

The still was shown in papers and online I think at one point.

It's probably a BBC press photo and they've probably got a copy of it somewhere

YouTube Gold

With me mentioning how they re-did The Bill titles when they went widescreen in 1999, here's a direct comparison of the two versions:

Notice they've recomposited the shots, redid the graphics the font on the second shot is different, they're slightly out of sync with each other and they completely refilmed the end slot of the hand closing the cell hatch in 16:9.
.

An interesting side note, these were made by a designer called Bernard Allum, who in 2008 told me they were composited on an SGI Onyx. The shots were filmed over a weekend using the guest artists between takes. The reason the cell wicket shot had to be redone was something really obscure and not directly linked to the change to 16:9, can't remember what it was! A lot of it was redone by hand as opposed to a template being in existence.

The text changed from composited on top to being typed onto a screen and the footage - interestingly enough the 'WANTED/MISSING' report text was corrected to what it would show on PNC, but not the right typeface even after the changes. They also dropped the '02SO' PNC FS code which should've been 01SO... Shame they dropped the levels of detail they once had just after this.

Still a very close reproduction though...

Little Britain removed from streaming platforms

Never seen it.

It's terrible.

The point I was making is, and Whataday will disagree I don't doubt, that just because at one point in history blackface was used to demean BAME people, that doesn't necessarily mean that every instance of it was, and if we get down to it the cited example is two Black actors pretending to be 'dumb blonde' white women. It's wrong for someone to pretend to be black and portray that character as being lazy, uneducated etc - why is it okay for a black person to portray a white person and do the same? You can't say 'years of repression' makes it right, two wrongs simply don't make a right.

Either apply the same to all or don't.

Little Britain removed from streaming platforms

RDJ posted:
It’s reported that sales of the Little Britain DVD is currently the top sellers on Amazon with each series dominating the top 3 places and sales in total rising by 200,000%.

Surely this has had the opposite effect to what the BBC were intending. As they’re now making money (albeit the commercial arm) from the show it’s attempted to distance itself from, which portrays a much worse picture for them.

The Streisand Effect in action.

Quite, and I'm not sure I agree with the methodology of denying things ever existed because it has a chance of offending somebody.

Has White Chicks been removed from all platforms by any chance?

For the 1st bit. get a America map. centre it with the 3D camera and put your connect layers and in the place names. I’m not sure about the rest but the globe itself. what you wanna do is get a world map and make a cc sphere. hope that helps

No disrespect but there’s a thread in the gallery about this, with handy projects that show you how it’s put together...

US Demonstrations | News Coverage

That's why on the relevant public disorder training courses in the UK, the general rule of covering riots is that you never, ever get in between protestors and the police. If you do, you find a way out and avoid becoming the story.

The other side to it being if anyone is in the way they get 'pushed' (be it ordered to get back, moving because of a running line of cops coming towards them or being physically struck with shields or batons) back the same as anybody else, usually with sufficient warning given by the PSU bronze. If people started getting into the area behind a PSU or section of a PSU that poses an officer safety risk and compromises the (hopefully) sterile area behind the section or unit.

I'm not sure of the legitimacy of the press (or passive protesters as opposed to rioters) being fired upon with CS, AEP rounds or live bullets is though; the way the US Law Enforcement use force is alien to me, seems a bit carte blanche.

US Demonstrations | News Coverage

A reporter and her crew were attacked by the police with pepper bullets during a live on WAVE in Louisville.

How on earth can they justify that? Seriously...
