…and finally

I wish everybody well, and look forward to seeing what you can deliver next.

Well, before Asa finally pulls out the U Links, see you all over on TV Live very soon.

Cheers

RTÉ to Cease Broadcasting on DAB

Though, with a population of only 5 million to (one way or another) sustain their existance, you can't expect miracles.

I do agree though, compared with Norway's NRK (who serve exactly the same size population) they do seem rather lack lustre. Of course Norway is a far wealthier state than Ireland, so it probably isn't a fair comparison?

One more time...

Bail posted:
Its amazing how many are still around... dead... or in jail... on that list.

A reflection of life; like people you went to school with - some are still around, some are in prison and some sadly are dead.

I had a namesake at my school, and in my year who was sadly killed about 10 years after we left.

About 10 years after that I attended a school reunion. Quite a few people went white faced and silent when they saw me, I soon found out why !

Coronavirus - Impact on live/recorded shows

Your Honor worked Covid quite well into later episodes with the need for fewer people in the courtroom scenes fitting seamlessly in with the storyline at that point. Of course outside of the courtroom scenes life seemed to continue as normal, so presumably they were filmed prior to production being halted.

I'm up to Ep 9 now. I don't think it integrates too well. There was a courtroom scene where deep cleaning was referred to, and a smattering of folk wearing masks, straight into the next scene with everyone (comparatively) packed into a coffee shop. However, (don't worry no spoiler) Covid is being used as a useful plot device, (though I wonder how they would have dealt with the plot otherwise!?)

I hope everyone remembers to put their clooks forward in the morning!

One of our sons only really uses his iphone to see what the time is. A couple of years ago he didn't realise the clocks had gone forward until he got to work on Monday. It was only then he realised Sunday evening had been a bit lighter than normal!

TV shows that moved channel?

I don't know if it was entirely the same- the Thames version was made in a small studio without an audience, and the BBC version was in a big studio with an audience, that's a significnant change for starters.

Yes, the Thames version felt more like we were eavesdropping on an improvosed 'muck about' and was far more intimate than the BBC series, which I found rather hamfisted in places and a bit too much in yer face.

…and finally

Am I the only person here, not deciding to make a consciously final post? I was just going to carry on as normal. This might be the last one, or I might post something at 11pm on the 31st. I just dunno. It's what helps makes life so exciting 😎

Now Mastermind needs a new presenter

And Fred also presented Pass the buck (before Eamonn Holmes I think)

Blimey, I don't remember that at all, but Wiki seems to confirm

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pass_the_Buck_(1998_British_game_show)

I was about to say he's never worked for the BBC, but clearly he has !

ITV Programming Thread

P.S. I'm sure this has been covered at some point in the last 20 years but did Thames and LWT (and then Carlton/LWT) have agreements in place to advertise each others programmes?

They did, but I seem to remember it wasn't very often and when it did happen it was 'Monday on ITV' rather than 'Monday in Thames'

The main time I remembering it happening was when they used to have American mini series that went out on, say Sunday Monday Tuesday. Also there is a clip I've seen on here of a Thames Thursday night closedown where they list the schedule for Friday night, but again it's not mentioned as being Thames

I remember on one very rare occasion a Friday night programme menu slide on Thames, again branded as 'ITV'.

Simon McCoy

The BBC news report on his departure described him as a 'household name'. As much as I like him, I think that's pushing it a bit. He doesn't past my 'mum test'.

Nor mine, and she watches the News Channel all afternoon.

You mean she watches for the news and not who's presenting Shocked

Yes, pretty much, the names of the presenters don't really figure with her, except for Huw, Sophie, and Reeta, and that's about it

BBC News – Behind the Scenes

Gives a good idea of what a weird shape and how cramped that studio is.

In that far left hand corner, are very thick curtains that block out the sunlight from the real world. It's the corner of the building that faces East/South

VERA, Logogen etc

We had the Connolly panel in our analogue Con suite in Belfast, with a range of BBC One symbols. Then when you switched the suite to control BBC Two the Connolly panel switched to the other laser disc player with all the 2s on it. Of course there were more symbols than buttons to assign them to, so some had to be played off tape.

The same (Bill) Connolly Systems that built C4's first automation system in 1982 I think
