The peak was due to the inheritance from the match. After less than 20 minutes on-air that 5.25m (which was actually before GEB started) audience had dropped to 3.06m. Losing 2.2 million (or more than 40%) of your audience in less than 20 minutes isn't groundbreakingly successful.
I guess that's what happens when you serve up Piers F***ing Moron, Jeremy F***ing Corbyn and Ed F***ing Balls straight after an England loss. Many pint glasses were thrown at many pub TVs last night, I'd wager.

The Nordic countries tend to root for each other in the main -- although there's a healthy rivalry between Sweden and Denmark, there were some pretty glum faces when Australia equalised against Denmark last Thursday.
The SVT commentators were pretty ecstatic when Iceland scored against Argentina mind.

Are we the only country where the rights holder actually covers more that one nation that are possible to qualify for the World Cup?
I’m thinking this, because they keep showing coverage in other countries where the commentators and/or presenters go mental when their team scores, whereas here they always have to keep a slight element of being calm and neutral to satisfy viewers not in England. Of course that element can vary in how prominent it is.

I may have mentioned this already, but on an episode of Thunderbirds I've got taped from the BBC2 broadcasts 1991-2, in particular one of the Sunday afternoon repeats of "Cry Wolf", there's interference messing about with the signal.Instead of any apology or stopping the episode to sort it out, a grey box with the words "THERE IS INTERFERENCE ON VISION" came up briefly while it sorted itself out.

On the other hand, good opportunity for B-team and up-and-coming talent etc to cut their teeth.
