still, very surprised at Julie's demotion. she's their strongest asset surely?
Bradby at Ten
where's the idea come from that it's been 'handled badly'? egos have probably been bruised and Mark's allies have made his feelings known via links to the media but the ratings are rubbish for News at Ten to put it simply, and they're entitled to make whatever changes they feel are necessary to make it competitive. whether its the right move will be proven in timestill, very surprised at Julie's demotion. she's their strongest asset surely?

Sky News presentation - new newswall
i still don't get why they persist with Adam Boulton as front man. whatever his other talents/'insight', he remains a shocking presenter

not really what I was saying is it? I said he was mainly *associated* with ITV, regardless of what contract he may or may not be on
The Sport Thread
Not really - Keane stepped away from punditary and only made his return recently on ITV - and with them losing the Champions League/Europa League and axing presenters and pundits it's not like they're going to be signing up people on exclusive contracts now.

Roy Keane has made three appearances on TV this season, two on ITV and one on the BBC. He's not a full-time pundit and therefore works for who he likes, when he likes, as long as it doesn't clash with his actual paid job with Ireland.
you've stated this forcefully 3 times now on different forums...but it doesn't change the fact that he's well associated with ITV as a regular pundit. i'm not surprised people were surprised. It would be like Gary Neville showing up on ITV.
The Sport Thread
Tonight, ITV is showing Real Madrid vs. Schalke. Roy Keane is again an pundit, so is he a freelance or is ITV allowing him to do any punditry on the basis ITV is losing football coverage next season.

Sky News presentation - new newswall
not really sold on 'Sky News Tonight', from the editions I've seen. just feels like a regular two hours of Sky News which is fine, but don't pretend it's some radical departure from the rest of the day. doesn't help that Adam Boulton is, and always has been, a very poor presenter.

ITV might not have the same audience (which has a lot to do with how the channel has treated its news and current affairs over the last decade) but it has most recently employed the go-getters - and guess what, the BBC have been poaching them so they must be doing something right.
Nick Pollard: ‘Sky News is more inventive and energetic'
i agree with him. the BBC's journalism is unarguably high quality, solid and has the trust and affection of most of the public but when was the last time they broke a story first for instance or had a genuine exclusive? The less said about the news channel the better, it has followed Sky right from its inception, right down to the paper reviews now on at the same time with an identical format and Twitter hashtag(!).ITV might not have the same audience (which has a lot to do with how the channel has treated its news and current affairs over the last decade) but it has most recently employed the go-getters - and guess what, the BBC have been poaching them so they must be doing something right.

very surprised they're doing this as it sounds very similar to the failed 'Sky Report' from ten years ago. they seem to be going round in circles - a breaking news led channel or feature led one? I suppose the evening viewing figures are tiny enough to be able to experiment though

Interview with John Ryley in which he announces Boulton's show will run throughout prime time - from 7 to 9pm.

Quote:
He wants Adam Boultonâs new weekday evening show, which begins in September, to define the channel as much more than a rolling news service with a niche audience. âI do see that as an opportunity to take on both Channel 4 News and Newsnight in a different way,â he says. âItâs two hours long [7pm-9pm] and has a bigger canvas than Channel 4 News and Newsnight.â
So rather than it just being the former political editorâs show, Boulton will draw on Sky Newsâs newly recruited team of specialists â the likes of economics editor Ed Conway, social affairs editor Afua Hirsch, foreign affairs editor Sam Kiley, diplomatic editor Tim Marshall and sports correspondent Paul Kelso â for big interviews and scoops. âI would see those journalists being deployed to deliver exclusive stories for that show,â says Ryley. He has been âvery deliberatelyâ raiding newspapers for expert talent and has assembled a team quite capable of rivalling the other big current affairs shows.

well he came from a newspaper background (seems to be the fashionable route of hiring correspondents at the moment) so still looks uncomfortable on camera. Mark Kleinman is another one who looks a bit ill at ease, although he seems to bring in the stories

because they are different editorial teams. hardly a massive strain on resources in any case

In the real world it's advertisers they have to keep happy, which is why there on their 4th set of presenters in 4 years.
that may be true, but you have sniped from the sidelines at every single relaunch (quite a feat, considering their differences), without so much as offering your opinion on what would work
Good Morning Britain - the launch
. Come out the gate big loud bossy and glossy and get it done. And if your ratings increase to a level that make the bosses happy... drop the mic.]
