Michael Green forced to resign from ITV

The fact that they crow about Morse is laughable - Morse was being made way before Carlton came along and they just took the kudos once they bought the company.
!

No actually I believe Carlton were responsible for Morse, through a production subsidery, before they gained the licence. It was produced for Central.

Wow, watch out Ben, I can see this becoming a hot point for arguments and debate! ( I'm not being sarcastic by the way)

BBC NE opt out tonight

geordster77 posted:
it was a very entertaining documenatary (which no doubt will end up on BBC2 sometime given the national print press coverage it got this morning). I'm just pleased he's not the Chairman of my football club (if George happens to read this, I don't mean it -please don't come round and see me)

Given the coverage, I did assume it was on nationally. I was looking forward to watching it. And as for my football club, well, don't even get me started on our chairman...

Michael Green forced to resign from ITV

I don't think Carlton ever 'made' anything ! They arrived as a 'publisher contractor' - commissioned some utter crap in their early days and then had to buy Central to gain any production respectability . Michael Green goes away with 20 odd million - poor dear ...my heart bleeds
If you wanna know who wrecked ITV - look to Mrs Thatcher - she paved the way ...and its been down hill ever since ...one good reason to never vote tory!

Hey! Don't forget London Bridge!? Eh...er,OK.

ITV Ratings and Schedule Crisis

Hymagumba posted:
smw posted:
The thing is ITV needs to get good ratings and if they don't then it loses them money, I guess thats the problem and I suppose it'll only get more common wth the increased pressure they will be under

Of course but if they let the ratings build up they'd get the cash - they seem to want it instantly instead of waiting a tad longer. It worked fine for decades but now with the new system they are doing worse than ever before.

...But if they did that, the advertisers would be up in arms and start to put pressure on the network. The BBC are the only ones nowadays who can afford to leave a show on even when it gets poor ratings. I remember Channel 4 moving a few progs around this year (names of which escape me!).

Sky News Active online relaunched as Sky Scape?

Lord Wellington posted:
Please feel free to call me a winky-basher or cretin if this is being discussed elsewhere, but Sky News Active seems to have been relaunched as Sky Scape. www.sky.com/news

When the initial SNA service launched, I didn't feel there was much of a market for payed video content when the BBC provide it for free , and I guess this relaunch confirms this to be the case.

Did anybody here actually bother to subscribe to the original service?

No, I had better things to do, like, er, watching the news on TV. But I like the name, it's definately more original than 'Active' or 'interactive' which is turning into a cliche now.

New batch of LDN presenters?

Larry Scutta posted:
CPFC posted:

Don't take me the wrong way here, but why is BBC LDN news largely dominated by Asian presenters?

Is it? I don't tend to notice such things, but I don't think it is

Anyway, Mike Ramsden (not asian) is popping up over at Radio 1 and presumabley Gillian (not asian) and Nina (asian, I think) are on holiday, leaving Emily (not asian) and Asad (asian) doing the main bits with others such as Jules (not asian) filling in.

But as I say, your point is irrelevant

Ooh, touched a nerve have I? Just because I express an opinion that disagrees with yours? I'm a fan of TV reflecting multi-cultural Britain - just not a fan of positive discrimination, and BBC LDN do have more Asian presenters than non-Asian, something that you literally refered to in your strange post.

Michael Green forced to resign from ITV

Andrew posted:
Was Michael Green as the boss of Carlton, personally responsible for 'News at When'? Isn't that the responsibility of the ITV Network controller, which was David Liddiment at the time?

...which is the point I posted on the first page, leading us to the point we are now!

Why can't people discuss all? Threads do change, but by quoting someone, or posting a comment on michael grade, it can go back.

I did post a comment about Michael Green, but the petty bickering about News at When, which I would very much encourage you to discuss in a dedicated thread, continued unabated. Is it so hard to create a new thread to discuss the failings of News at When? And would it not make it easier for people to find who are interested in discussing the topic. thereby resulting in more contributions, rather than burying it in a thread about Michael Green and the consequences of his resignation?

Since when did you become forum admin? As I said, it was an unintentional result of myself and boring_user_name discussing Green's c**k-ups at ITV.

The (old) ITV News Thread

What was the point of that Men in Tights programme? They might as well have taken the Arsenal game up until 10.00 and then had the news, and then perhaps put that programme at 10.35. (My main point is the news, by the way, not the programme!)

Michael Green forced to resign from ITV

Because viewing figures prove it , check the MediaGuaurdian archive if you don't believe me. ITV/ITN have already settled on a new 10.30 slot, so dramas and films should be able to fit in fine. Wh would the network want to move the evening news? Viewing figures have improved for 6.30.

Not many films will fit in, along with adverts and have it still starting on time. And what will they do with things like the Frank Skinner Show? At the moment it is on after the news at 22:30, and goes on till 23:20, so if it started at 22:00, then the news would be pushed back to 22:50, and if they pushed frank back, it would start at 21:40! Unless they put a half hour programme before it followed by creature comforts or something!

They might start films at 8.30, and Frank Skinner may have ended by then, or moved to the weekend when the Premiership ends.

Anyway, it's inevitable that this thread will drift as we talk about Green's failings at ITV.

You just keep on contradicting yourself. The News at Nine was popular because of the event it was specially based on. People aren't gonna make special plans to tune into it for everyday, mundane news.

How can you state that it was popular only because of the event? Neither you, I, nor anyone else will ever know what could've happened if they had kept it. I was just speculating that itv's nightly news programme could have been more successful if it was regularly screened at 9:00.
Please tell me why a large amount of viewers watched it at 9:00 during the war but not after it? Also, how am I contradicting myself?

Plus, it would cut into ITV's prestigous 9pm slot, where they normally get the most viewers.

Possibly. But it could have generated more viewers at other times. For example, it would have freed the post 9:30 schedule for films, and other feature length stuff. Also, it would have enabled the network to move the evening news to an earlier time, thus again freeing another part of the schedule, from 6-9, for even more prime time programming.
Finally, it would certainly provide viewers with far more choice than is currently available, in that a news programme would be avaliable at 9:00 on itv, and also at 10:00 on BBC 1.
