This Morning

what posted:
Vanessa Feltz had a show in daytime at one point too IIRC.

That was ITV at 9.25. It was replaced by Trisha Goddard, then Jeremy Kyle.

Trisha after Vanessa was poached by the Beeb. JK after Trisha was poached by C5.

CNN International & Domestic

Jon posted:
These US news networks on both sides act more like our written press than our broadcast media.

Agree. US news channels are tabloids. They’re awful. Whilst it’s no great loss with Fox News or MSNBC, it’s very unfortunate that CNN, with a formidable international news gathering capability, has been lost to talking heads. Can’t argue with the ratings for all three of them though. Pays better to be tabloid tv.

I think that's a little bit harsh in general terms. Certainly Fox News, Newsmax TV and others on the political right are very tabloid in their presentation and agenda, I would argue that MSNBC and CNN are less so, though they do borrow some tabloid elements occasionally. Only CBSN is like the kind of straight news model that we're used to in this country.

Yes, to be fair, I wasn’t including CBSN. I was only referring to the big three news channels as the equivalent of tabloids. Evening newscasts on the broadcast networks is also still good.

The Sky News Thread

AJ posted:
Social media is a different kettle of fish, if they're not bringing their organisation in to disrepute, I don't believe there is any issue with voicing opinions there from time to time as long as they're explicit that it's a personal opinion.

If they are voicing opinions on twitter how can you then expect people to treat their news reports as impartial (even if it is!) if we know their own views on a subject. Challenging a view on broadcast is expected, as the reporter has a role in challenging the view presented by the interviewee. If the reporter then tweets personal opinion, in line with how they have challenged, it undermines the whole thing.

Davina and Rylan to front Big Brother show for E4

LondonViewer is right regarding the house - and the studio was in the building across the river. I think those white roofs are probably marquees and where the crowd used to be. Would be interesting to see if any plans were ever made for a BB3 house at Bow though I think the local council were always pretty clear they wouldn't extend the lease.

It was built on Metropolitan Open Land under the proviso that it was only temporary. Metropolitan Open Land has similar protections to green belt, so it would have been nigh on impossible to extend/build a perm structure. Interestingly the initial planning approval was only for the duration of series 1 - so they were lucky to get 2 years there.

It’s the large green patch of land below the red circle, in the river fork. The bridge is no more, but you can make out the pinch points on the water banks of where is was.

I also didn't realize the first couple of series were filmed at Three Mill Studios

Three Mills worked so much better than Elstree. The bridge was a much more effective tool to transition back to normality than the staircase at the Elstree house. Crowd were kept away from the house and more land to play with. Elstree was a bit of a bear pit.

BBC News nostalgia, including BBC World

More worrying is how much better the content & editorial was in the flags era.

Little Britain removed from streaming platforms

I have a trans friend who had about 5 years of hell being taunted with "I'm a laydee" impressions wherever she went.

Quite. Along with ‘only gay in the village’. I think their stereotypes were more damaging to LGBT people than anyone else.
Don’t care that it’s been pulled.

BBC 2020 Rebrand Project

New concept is very coherent and uniform, but I feel like you’ve lost something vs your original concept.
Lost its modernity somewhat. Kinda 00s. Very BBC in a way.
Liked the original concept, as an out there, not gonna happen, fresh spin.
Great work though!

Coronation Street

“Nowt but a clapped-out chorus girl!”

“Pals! Pals! You don't know the meaning of the word!"

Iconic!!

Yes! A classic Corrie moment. Watched that scene many times back in the day. It was on the intro to The Cruise feature length special VHS.
