Change of TV last 20 years

Streaming has transformed how viewers consume television. No longer are viewers stuck with regimented schedules and can choose to watch the majority of programmes when they feel like it.

Never has impartial news been at risk than in the last twenty years, Fox News showed that there's a market for echo chamber output which led to spin-off networks such as Newsmax and OANN and soon GB News along with disinformation on social media.

Presentation wise, while I understand why news bulletins are more uniform these days, sharing graphics and even set design, I miss the days of regional news bulletins being distinctive with their own sets, themes and graphics.

We now live in a era where viewers have instant choice, so for those programme makers who can cut above the habit of people watching classic shows on Netflix to watch a linear tv show is even more special than ever.

Eggheads moving to C5

Cando posted:
The Mash Report reminded me of The 11 O'Clock Show. You watched it because the Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) sketches were exceptional, but the rest of the sketches, including early Ricky Gervais material wasn't great, although some of the Daisy Donovan material was ok.

Mash in comparison I watched for the Rachel Parris segments, yet the rest of the content never really hit the spot. If you're going to do left-wing skewed comedy, it has to hit the spot and it rarely did.

Exactly Rachel Parris was the only good part of the show. Mash reminded me of when Fox News tried to do a right wing version of The Daily Show. Utterly painful. Trying way too hard and unnatural.

SNL was clearly anti-Trump during his presidency and they continually hit it right every time.

Rachel Parris has the skill of being over to explain really bad stories and put a comedic spin on them, which is why her monologues worked, but having Geoff Norcott on as the token right-wing comedian is no different to Fox News's The Five having a token Democrat on while there are four other people still providing echo chamber infotainment.

As we know Mash is continuing on a yet to be announced channel, I hope they take the opportunity to tweak it with the writing as the non Parris stuff was very rough around the edges.

NOW TV

Considering Now is also a broadband brand, it's common sense to rebrand it as NOW which will better fit both the tv and broadband elements.

Personally I prefer this third incarnation of the logo to the current one.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

When Piers grilled ministers on Covid, he was at his best, pressing for answers as a journalist, yet the Meghan and Harry nonsense has been based on his own personal feud with the Duchess of Sussex which has clouded his judgement and led to his downfall.

If he stuck to being to being the presenter who gives politicians a hard time instead of using his platform to bash someone constantly, I doubt he'd be in so much trouble, but that's Piers for you!

…and finally

Me and some other peeps noticed this pop up recently:

Asa knows about this, right?

Whoever is behind this is already following me on Twitter.

It seems they don't follow me. I also found out you've apparently blocked my (personal) account on Twitter. Therefore my unfounded conspiracy theory is that it's secretly your forum.

If I have, it's probably because you're on a pre added block list. It wouldn't be intentional!

The Sky News Thread

Watching a piece about anti-vaxxers in France on Sky News, it's great to see that they've cut down on the dubbing of French speakers, except for the vox-pops.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

I would have suggested Jeremy Kyle, but he's not a viable option.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

The breakfast tv wars are still minnow compared to over 9m listeners who tune into Zoe Ball on Radio 2.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

If Anne Robinson hadn't just recently been announced as Countdown host, she might have fitted in on GMB based on her Watchdog experience!

Certainly her interviewing style on Watchdog more than meets the requirements.
