ITV Channel Islands HD

My guess would be there's something carried on the English regions that they can't legally broadcast in the islands, likely the adverts as many of the advertised products and services won't be available in the islands.

Historically, Jackpot247 certainly wasn’t allowed to be broadcast in CI. So a rebroadcast of another region’s HD variant was definietly not possible unless they blacked it out (which would require seperate playout, muxing, etc).

They shut shop July 2019...so pandemic aside, it’s only been six months or so since then. Possible ITV simply haven’t gotten around to doing anything about it.

Okay if it’s something that can’t be legally advertised why is it going out on ITV SD? Is ITV HD and SD the same feeds (for whatever region or sunset - I know the regions that have opt outs on SD will often have a different HD versions)

It wouldn't be, Channel would be showing ITV Nightscreen when those overnight gambling programmes couldn't be shown in the Channel Islands.

STV, which isn't owned by ITV but part of the ITV network still schedules ITV Nightscreen instead of the Ideal World shopping channel simulcast as the current deal with ITV is for them to air it on their own franchises.

TVF Confessions

While not tv pres focused, whenever I see a tv set that hasn't been set-up properly (such as 4:3 channels stretched to 16:9) or the tv left on factory settings, I have to resist the urge to set it up properly!

I'm like that with my Mum when she's watching programmes is SD when the HD channel is available and I've switched it over on more than one occasion. Rochelle Humes mentioned on Room 101 that her husband did that whenever she was watching TV so clearly I'm not the only one!

I'm my mother's carer and she recognises when something is in SD these days as she'll say "son, the picture on EastEnders is blurry"

ITV Channel Islands HD

Didn’t Channel Islands move to a new facility a few years ago? I assume it’s all HD? Don’t know why they wouldn’t launch it HD. But then again from what I’ve heard ITV doesn’t want to launch more than what they have unless the BBC splits with them.

I'm not sure ITV Channel Islands having an HD facility is that relevant to their broadcast in HD. The PSB 3 encoding almost certainly takes place at two BBC facilities (The BBC encode all the services in PSB3 and mux them together centrally) and I don't know if there are any commercial playout facilities at ITV Channel Islands these days - so the chances are that ITV Channel is played (i.e. the channel is assembled) at Red Bee in Chiswick or Leeds, so the Channel Islands ITV studio has to be fed to that location for news to be added? There is no requirement for connectivity directly between their studios in Jersey and the transmitter in Jersey.

Channel is played out from Chiswick.

ITV Channel Islands HD

Also worth noting that Sky and Freesat viewers still don't get ITV Channel TV or Border Scotland in HD (It can be manually tuned to another ITV HD region however). Presumably these two areas aren't cost effective to add the channel in HD currently.

Change of TV last 20 years

Despite the fact I haven't purchased a film or tv series physically, I still have four boxes of DVDs for when the internet goes down.

It still amazes me at how much I can stream to my tv through a copper line!

Channel 5 general discussion

Jonwo posted:
I actually watched C5 for the first time in a while this week. So surprised at how documentary orientated the channel is in peak, it was an evening of cop docs and a 90 min crime doc about James Bulger which was actually very good.

Inside Chernobyl last week was also very good and was also their highest rated documentary since Michael Palin in North Korea.

This thread loves to slag off Channel 5 but I think they've come a long way in recent years.

I need to check out Inside Chernobyl on My5. I've seen the Palin North Korea doc on Britbox, again of a high quality which you'd assume is a BBC production.

The Murder of James Bulger was 2x90, so was on over two nights.

The Sky News Thread

It's a shame it isn't Sophy this week as she's close in age to Sarah Everard which would be relatable to the audience affected by the murder.
