TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread

Where I worked the C4 transmission suite was generally operated by a ‘fully fledged’ transmission controller and MCR engineer. Indeed, I did a few shifts in both capacities myself. It was a smaller version than the main ITV transmission suite but fully operationally capable. C4 was never co-owned by the ITV companies, they financed it but they had no ownership rights. All local C4 on air announcements and trailers were performed live, nothing was pre-recorded.

HTV's 'S4C' commercial playout suite was used from Jan 1st 1993, for Westcountry's playout/pres

Didn’t know WestCountry had outsourced its Pres and Playout.
Quite the switch from just commercials

BBC Scotland - the launch

A massive bit of speculation but if the new BBC News graphics are anything like that used on the preview of the Nine just now I'll be happy - I don't like the currently use of the thin red sliding bars and text that News currently use on their social media videos, and whilst the thin coloured bars carried over from the very brief peek it all animated much nicer, and with a nice mix of serif and sans serif Reith!

Prepare to be not happy.

ITV axe sitcoms

I'm amazed we've got to page 6 of this thread without a single mention of Barbara, which is usually the go-to option when talking about successful ITV sitcoms.

So underrated and under repeated.
Probably ITV’s most funny sitcom.

Granada Reports

Quote:

Can’t remember the last time I watched North West Tonight, editorially a fine programme but there is no charisma and hasn’t been for a few years now.

If you’ve not watched it, then how do you know there’s no charisma?

The new names for Eleven and One have been confirmed.
They'll be renamed as Ten Peach and Ten Boss ahead of the upfronts next Wednesday

For a second there I thought you said Tinned Peach.

Very odd

BBC Two 2018 Revamp

The idents and presentation package has been created by an agency with a big history with the BBC. That agency has evolved over the past 25 years.

Double figure launch idents.

It’s *very* good. Knocks BBC One out of the park.

Sky News | General Discussion

Trouble is that Sky News is just so visually bland now. However you try and liven it up with programmes titles, the set, the music and some graphics are just so dull. It all looks the same and is repetitive.

Animated endcaps from 1989 ITV rebrand

Si-Co posted:
I’m slightly confused as to what you mean by the “jingle” on the endcap - I had thought STV’s endcaps were always “still and silent”, like those of most of the ITV companies.

STV had an animated endcap with a jingle for the first few months of 1989. You could see it when Challenge repeated the first series of Fun House a few years back (and it was on the Feb-August 1989 High Road editions when they were on YouTube).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2dWHRYJFGE

Clearly this endcap was on some of the September 1989 episodes of Take The High Road, but they edited the ITV Generic style endcap over it at the last minute (but left the jingle there).

Probably a thread in its own right, but anymore examples of animated endcaps from 1989?
