…and finally

Am I the only person here, not deciding to make a consciously final post? I was just going to carry on as normal. This might be the last one, or I might post something at 11pm on the 31st. I just dunno. It's what helps makes life so exciting 😎

Yes, and based on the last few weeks, we will probably see about 3 more major TV events between now and the end of the month!

This will drive you crazy, but I know of three big projects in the works and in the pipelines, that when we are allowed to say, will keep us talking over at GMTV.. err TV Live Forum...for a good while.

Will you be ‘seeding’ the forum with some topics to encourage debate? Perhaps a continuation of popular threads from here, such as YouTube & Twitter Gold etc..

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

The whole thing is a farce to avoid serious sanctions by Ofcom for breaching impartiality.
Clearly Piers went too far. To try and make amends the sequence with the weather presenter and Piers walking off was engineered as evidence they have a strong range of voices and opinions. Today they attempt to stand by that by not apologising but explaining why he’s no longer there.

Piers Morgan to leave GMB

An explanation about his departure, but no apology.

TVF Confessions

Hated the ITV hearts era, everything about and especially the end credits.
Granada became really dull never really using the full idents. It must have been when Leeds took over continuity for the Northern stations and all had bland generic announcements.

Loved the ITV1 era

…and finally

Very sad to see the site close to new contributions.
It’s been part of my life since I discovered it in the university library along with Darren Meldrum’s Private Parts! (I’ve had various usernames over the years after being a long time lurker, then posting something before forgetting my username and password!)

I think in the last few years the quality of post has slipped due to the impact of social media -
some of the worst of Twitter shouting dilutes the quality of discussion.

If TV Live Forum is to be our new GMTV to our TV-am, then I hope our usernames reflect our current identities.
It’s a niche community of people who I don’t know but rather like, and I’d like to still interact with you.

Maybe the decision to close this site might encourage more thoughtful and tolerant postings going forward on the new one. (and to save Rob a job moderating it all)

I think @allnewphil said earlier that this site has been a lifeline of normality over the past crazy year. I agree entirely. Reading the posts, watching the ‘YouTube Gold’ clips have kept me sane and from completely going off the rails - I came very close.

In the grand scheme of things, what we talk about is not important, but it’s important to us. And long may it continue.

Top Gear new series from Television Centre

Iconic as TVC is I’m glad I don’t live in one of the converted flats. Good luck getting some sleep.

Big Brother Canada 9 (2021)

It is a clever way to make use of a design that had to be abandoned last year but also refresh the look, but agree it seems a bit tasteless.

P.S. JexedBack - your post makes no sense. It's being filmed as a normal edition of Big Brother is usually filmed.

You’re right it’s not clear. Apologies.
I meant people want escapism from the pandemic. They want escapism from Zoom and TV compromised productions.
This seems a waste of an un-compromised covid secure production. Why remind people of the horror outside the BB walls? Make the most of it in the most glamorous, lighthearted, entertaining way possible. Give us the distraction.

Big Brother Canada 9 (2021)

Very poor taste.
People need escapism - for a show to be filmed normally, away from Zoom and other remote videos why remind people of the nightmare they’re currently living through? - seems a waste of a quality normal broadcast experience.

30 years ago today: the smokey globe and the 2s

The COW always felt cold to me.
Too posh.
Really dislike the gold BBC 1 lettering underneath.
The virtual globe felt so futuristic.
parrferris and Roger Darthwell gave kudos

S2 / UTV2 / TV You

Hello, just wondering if anyone had any footage of S2 / UTV2 / TV You - the pre-ITV2 channels in Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Can’t find any on TVark or YouTube.
Thanks

Broadcast Clocks

Here's the clock they used at Christmas 1989. Was this their last new clock?

If you mean counting the "wallpaper" then I don't think so. I recall seeing evidence of its use with the green Spring presentation Granada used in the early part of 1990. I think that may well have been its final incarnation. I assume the clock was used right up until the rebrand.

The design of the clock itself appears to have come in around 1986/7, looking at the TVArk page. Presumably, this coincided with the move away from the same static blue ident and towards seasonal pres.

'87 it came in. Smile

They were still using the twin-border clock in August of that year:

The Perspex Granada G logo used in the trails looks awfully like the one used for the 1995 idents.
I’m sure I’ve read it was shot through a Perspex logo with the cgi added later.
