New Sky channels: Sky Crime and Sky Comedy

Seems a bit strange abandoning the Sky One Facebook and Twitter pages by renaming them. I don't think Sky would want to rename Sky One as the brand has existed for quite a while.

It’s makes perfect sense at the moment if you have a million followers on Sky One’s twitter but only 20,000 on Sky Comedy, if you want to promote a Sky Comedy programme it’s only going to hit 20,000, rather the million. It’s also going to be cheaper to run one page than several.

Well since Sky launches a lot of channels, it does make a lot of sense in the long term. Saves the hassle of creating a new "Sky Comedy" handle which some may not even follow.

Still, I feel that it could alienate the viewers of Sky One, almost convincing them Sky One is now Sky "Gone"

New Sky channels: Sky Crime and Sky Comedy

I do still believe there would be an audience who'd want to watch the channel. I mean, most of the audience who watch John Oliver's channel at least are on another channel which can't be confused with the same channel's programming that had a big HBO show with dragons and... you get the idea.

Still don't see any point in showing Sky News documentaries on Sky Atlantic. Everyone recieves Sky News, why promote it on a channel which only revolves around US drama and only airs on Sky's main platforms?

New Sky channels: Sky Crime and Sky Comedy

Virgin Media still shows Universal on the schedule with the likes of Chicago Justice, Law and Order, etc up to 29 January.

Worth mentioning that also on Universal TV's website, which only redirects to the TV schedule now, it seems to show programmes afterwards as well. Unless this basically means that Universal TV is just being pulled off Sky and kept on Virgin? It's all a bit confusing, especially as Universal's programming seems to appear on Sky's other channels.

BBC rebrand

I like the concept of the blocks background, but I think it may look a bit distracting with the BBC letters in tact with the boxes. Maybe having the boxes without the characters could work better and less distracting.

Other than that, I quite like what you've done with the CBBC logo which sort of breaks the BBC guidelines but at least it attempts to do something creative than being limited to being flat blocks.

This is a very big step from what we originally saw at the start of this thread. I hope you continue with ECPs, develop more on promo graphics and maybe consider doing News/Parliament logos/graphics next?

2.7/5.

New Sky channels: Sky Crime and Sky Comedy

This debate is as old as that page and in those 20 years everyone's got used to channel bugs and it's not really an issue any more

Pressing something to find out what channel you're watching is an active process. Very few people care what channel they're watching but the channels want them to know. Having the logo on the screen all the time makes it passive not active.

I think you're missing one crucial thing about what's happened over the last twenty years, or to be more precise over the last ten years, as channel DOGs have generally gotten smaller, more translucent, and have been moved much further into the corner after the axing of the 4:3 safe area. If the BBC introduced large, colourful, bright DOGs on their channels, I can bet there would be complaints. Some are so small and indistinguishable, like ITV's, that you wonder why they even bother.

That hadn't stopped CBBC from having a colour changing DOG, but again, it's for children and I don't think they'd care as much.

National Television Awards

The 1997 awards were two days after the BBC rebrand. Therefore they’re using the wrong idents for them.

Though I’m sure the BBC had the idents under wraps beforehand and I’m sure they weren’t going to provide ITV copies of them before their launch just for use on their awards ceremony.

To be fair though, the award ceremony was for shows which broadcasted the past year, so to use the old logo probably makes sense in that regard.

Music Channel Archive YouTube channel is now made for kids

Yeah, the way YouTube's labelling kids content is a tad bit annoying, especially as it's a case of "Don't judge a book by it's cover", a saying AI will never be able to understand. I've seen a lot of videos which have animated characters in them but they've been labelled as "for kids" even though they aren't in BBFC/MPAA terms. I won't mention examples but yeah, it's THAT bad. Especially for accounts which haven't been active for years.

The system is not a bad idea on paper, not in the slightest. In fact, I actually am glad YouTube's decided to implement it. But the way YouTube's been keeping these practises and rubbing under the nose of the COPPA regulation just seems really pathetic, especially with disabling features which are useful for parents and people alike (playlists are good for parents who want their children to watch selected videos for children which aren't the creepy robotic videos created by AIs and mini player is useful for people who want to look for another video while watching the current one)

I wonder how long it'll be before parents and governments become a bit concerned for YouTube's actions again...

BBC Oneness adds a bit of hot air

I think I am one of the few who is happy that Oneness is back. I hope that a few more new idents are added. Maybe during the Olympic Games.

I actually do believe the Olympic games idents will have sembelance of effort put in and not just some crowd standing about facing the camera...

Oh wait, that's not Oneness, is it?

BBC One Christmas 2019

I'd imagine, since this is the new decade, BBC1 would surely want to have a new package that better represents the nation.

But I'm not really holding hopes for this year to be the one where they surprise us. At most, I'm expecting a logo refresh (since the current one has been in use since 2006! Nearly more than a decade in itself) and/or a "Reith-ed" endboard.

God knows, the BBC could surprise us all, the amount of work put into #XMASLIFE seems to show hope that a full package throughout the year could work if executed properly. Only time will tell and the Onemess could go on.

TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread

And sometimes the CBBC DOG would stay on screen for a few minutes, or in some cases well into the first programme, when BBC Three took over.

And on at least one occasion, well into the evening...

Here's a DS article regarding that incident.

I believe there was even a moment when after BBC3 rebranded in 2008, there was another sighting of a "CBBC" dog on Top Gear.

BBC: Square/Icon Rebrand 2019

As (I guess) a Christmas present to you, here's the sting I created based off the "dotted UK map" that I had the idea of earlier. I also used the same colour as the BBC1 logo earlier which was part of the different designed logos.

I wanted to try and have each region build itself from the dots, but I found difficulty in some regions because they ended up finishing right as the dots began to float away. Of course, I do want to try and develop this idea more in having the UK map be one of the main focuses of the new BBC1 branding and potentially have the symbol be the main focus at the same time.

End of Universal TV in the UK?

Are they closing, or are they just being removed from BT?

Quote:
and will no longer be available in the UK market

Interestingly, VH1 is also closing down which is a fairly well known brand and has been around for years. Same day as the rebranding back to MTV Rocks. Although it could just be a mixup of "VH1 Christmas" but I dunno.

It is expected, as the channel has been nothing but re-runs of RuPaul's Drag Race and has no relation to it's music past.

BBC: Square/Icon Rebrand 2019

A good start, but if it were me, I'd actually change the colours on BBC One to yellow. Also, I think you need a background. The logo is there, but it needs something going on. I would suggest an atlas, dotted around the UK, as a new version of the globe.

Interestingly, the cut-out logo was originally yellow before I changed it to the common red theme that BBC One is identified with. This is back on page 6 when people requested I changed the rounded logo.

As for the background, I do have to agree that nothing really stands out about it, it's just a shade of red. And as well, that atlas idea could be an interesting idea for regional stings, I was thinking that certain parts of the UK would form and then reveal the BBC One logo with the region name below it. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I'll see if yellow will suit my ideas well.
