BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

I presume because that would only amount to half an hour on air - I'm 90% sure it'll be a contractual thing that she has to to X amount of shifts on the news channel and in x amount of weeks, hence why she showed up on the NC to dual head but the rest of the day was presented solo.

In other news - Rachael Hodges on the NC for the evening shift tonight. Bigger things coming for her I wonder?

I hope Rachael does get more shifts. She's great on Radio, but she has a face for TV. She's blocked me from following her on Twitter. Very Happy

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

I would agree that Tim is used far too much. I've been watching BBC News 24 and BBC World since 2000 and I've never known another presenter to be on as much as Tim. In fact, in the early 2000s it was unheard of for a BBC World presenter to appear on News 24 and vice versa. It must have happened only a handful of times. And there was a pool of relief presenters on News 24 back then, all of whom were used regularly. I wouldn't mind, but I don't even think Tim is that good. I've never really bought into the Tim-fest that usually happens on here; I think he's fairly average at best. As he demonstrated this morning, his interviewing technique is frequently arrogant and aggressive and I don't think he has much chemistry with co-presenters either.

I completely agree with what you said. Just a normal average presenter. Although he doesn't present much with Julia so there would be a lack of chemistry. But I think he's quite good with Sophie.

I'm sure there's the amazing Suzanne Virdee who's currently looking for work after Midlands Today. Why not give her a chance? She could have doubled up with Sophie Long this afternoon or Julia this morning.

Haven't really seen Virdee in action. Taking a look at her on YouTube and she seems good enough. I think she would suit the news channel.

Bloody hell, Willcox is on BBC World now presenting The Hub! Does he ever go home?! Shocked

This man is so annoying. He just takes every chance he gets to present every single news programme! I hate him. Very Happy Mad

I wouldn't go as far as hating him. Maybe because it's a bank holiday they're lower on presenters compared to usual, and if Tim's willing to present more programmes to cover staffing levels, then so be it!

I know, but give someone else a chance. There are other people they can use. I don't see other newsreaders presenting hours of news every day Mad

Wonder who will do the One today (just 5 minutes I think) - both Tim and Julia are equally qualified

No doubt it will be Tim, the fact that he's sat on the on-screen left side of the desk is probably a sign of that. However, it definitely should be Julia as she's already a more familiar face for national bulletins.

Tim Wilcox really is awful. Interview with the NUT woman this morning ...he had such an arrogant tone. He's the only one ho would make me watch Sky !

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so - there's something quite irritating about him to watch. I think he's usually an okay interviewer but agreed with you about the NUT interview, he was pushing his luck to say the least!

I have to agree. I find Tim really annoying. He's alright once in a while but he presents far too often for my liking.

Domestically, it is definitely holiday season. We had Simon McCoy on Breakfast this morning alongside Louise Minchin. No man has a sense of humour like he does. And, of course, filling in for him on the News Channel right now is Tim (solo).

Also, expect to see Rachael Hodges at some point over the Easter weekend on the News Channel, as she herself tweeted a couple of weeks ago. Awesome.

Noticed Julia has just joined Tim in the studio.

BBC Breakfast

Will Sian be able to stand in on Breakfast if the others aren't available? Or will they pull someone in from NWT?

It would be good if Roger Johnson covered for breakfast. Ranvir Singh won't be too bad either.

No it would not! They are both awful presenters!

Especially Roger.

Really do not understand why they went for Roger Johnson to replace Gordon. Such a bland presenter - which is not what is needed for regional news (or Breakfast for that matter)

Well I have to say that Roger is a great presenter. I have grown up watching him presenting the sports bulletins on South Today and he is definitely not a bland presenter. But I don't know why he moved up north. He worked down south for so many years. He had a great on-screen relationship with Sally Taylor and he would do very well on Breakfast.

I disagree with you on that. Having been used to Gordon Burns for so many years, Roger is incredibly dull on North West Tonight. He might have been suitable for sport in the south, but he's certainly not right for a main presenting role on a major regional news programme. He'd be better suited to something more serious where a strong personality is not really needed. Although Ranvir can be an acquired taste, sometimes it's so obvious that she's trying to interact with him but she might as well be talking to a manikin.

As for why he moved up north... well, it's all 'appening up 'ere tha knows Wink

I suppose he just needs more time. It would be difficult for anyone to steep into Gordon's shoes.
I know he was a sports presenter but he always stood in when Sally was away. He was great and I'm sure we will be great up in Salford on day.

I always found Roger Johnson quite annoying whenever I caught him on the News Channel, constantly moving about all over the place and that squeaky voice of his. Glad he doesn't present on there anymore!

Tony Livesay and Sally Nugent should be the main relief presenters, in my opinion...

Well I'm afraid I disagree on the Roger front.
We might see a bit of Victoria Derbyshire a little bit in Salford. She presented a few times last year and she works in Salford.
